Food and agricultural waste is a huge global issue that has detrimental effects on society, the economy, and the environment. Plant leaves, stems, roots and peels (outer leaves and stems) are among the wastes and byproducts from agriculture and the food business, along with residues from oil production, fruit and vegetable peels, and seeds. High concentrations of dietary fiber, phytochemicals, cellulose, and hemicellulose are typically found in these residues. As the next environmentally conscious step of waste valorization, research from recent years has demonstrated that employing organic ingredients/biodegradable fibers generated from waste and byproducts in the food packaging business may be an efficient strategy to reduce the quantity of food waste and byproducts. In recent years, there has been a lot of interest in finding alternative polymer materials as high-value novel packaging materials through the valorization of agricultural waste. Thus, utilizing agricultural wastes and byproducts as raw materials for food packaging could help cut down on the amount of waste produced.Agro-Wastes for Packaging Applications provides an update on the strategies for valuing agricultural waste and how these might be used in packaging. It also includes recent research on these approaches and presents an innovative strategy for developing sustainable, green, and biodegradable packaging options. A detailed overview of the packaging application of valorized agricultural waste materials is discussed, and concept clarification is achieved using flowcharts and figures supported by the latest research investigations. These agricultural leftovers are abundant sources of polysaccharides, such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, which can be processed further utilizing various physicochemical techniques and other unconventional techniques to create nanocellulose fibers or crystals. The main goal of this book is to provide food experts and the general public with superior, environmentally friendly, sustainable packaging materials that can be used in place of plastic polymers.Key Features- Contains abundant information on advanced valorization techniques for different types of agricultural wastes- Provides information on possible applications of component/constituents obtained by the valorization- Discusses the impact of the incorporation of these valorized components in different packaging systems - Reviews the legal standards and future trends in the commercialization of these derived polymers in food packaging industries

The photon, an abstract concept belonging to a global vacuum, only manifests itself during interaction with matter. Fundamentals of Photon Physics describes the richly faceted, basic theory of photon-matter interaction, selecting a wide number of topics. Together with the author's book Light - The Physics of the Photon (CRC, 2014), both written on a scholarly level, the reader is given a comprehensive exposition of photon wave mechanics, quantum optics and quantum electrodynamics (QED).Divided into ten parts, the book begins by exploring the relation between photon wave mechanics and quantum field theory. It then describes the theories of zero- and one-photon states and that of bi-photons. After discussing conservation laws, Lagrangian formulations, geometric phase and topology, the author turns towards the theory of photon scattering, emphasizing a density matrix operator approach and the role of microscopic extinction theorems. The book next focuses on mesoscopic QED, devoting particular attention to collective jellium excitations and photon-spin interactions. Special attention is given to the basics of the photon-magnon interaction and nonlinear superconductor electrodynamics, including the nonlinear Meissner rectification phenomenon, before studying the theory of transverse photons tied to (dressing) massive particles. The last three parts take the reader on a journey to topics usually not treated in books on photon-matter interaction. Beginning with photons in curved space-time structures and in spatially curved media, e.g. Möbius bands, the author discusses the extension of QED to the electro-weak interaction at an introductory level. Fundamentals of Photon Physics ends with the establishment of the set of isovector Maxwell equations in non-Abelian SO(3) gauge theory, leading to the celebrated hedgehog monopole model.Ole Keller is professor emeritus of theoretical physics at Aalborg University, Denmark. He is a fellow of the Optical Society of America. He has written the books entitled Quantum Theory of Near-Field Electrodynamics (Springer, 2011) and LIGHT - The Physics of the Photon (CRC, 2014), as well as the monographs Local Fields in the Electrodynamics of Mesoscopic Media (Physics Reports, 1996) and On the Theory of Spatial Localization of Photons (Physics Reports, 2005). He is the editor of the books Nonlinear Optics in Solids (Springer, 1990), Studies in Classical and Quantum Nonlinear Optics (Nova Science, 1995) and Notions and Perspectives of Nonlinear Optics (World Scientific, 1996).In recent years he has carried out theoretical research in fundamental photon physics, microscopic few-photon diffraction, mesoscopic and Möbius band electrodynamics, and studied magnetic monopole theory based on QED and the isovector Maxwell equations in non-Abelian gauge symmetry.
Herbal drugs play a pivotal role in modern medicine however only limited biotechnology application has been seen. Revolutions in high-throughput approaches emphasize omics approaches. A volume in the Exploring Medicinal Plants series, this book provides in-depth analysis of breakthroughs in the research of medicinal plants.
The dark universe contains matter and energy unidentifiable with current physical models, accounting for 95% of all matter and energetic equivalent in the Universe. The enormous surplus brings up daunting enigmas, such as the cosmological constant problem, and so coming to grips with the invisible Universe has become a scientific imperative. This book addresses this need, reckoning that no cogent physical model of the dark universe can be implemented without first addressing the metaphysical hurdles along the way. The foremost problem is identifying the topology of the universe which, as argued in the book, is highly relevant to identifying secrets of the dark universe.Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a valuable tool in this effort since it can reconcile conflicting data from deep space with the extant laws of physics by building models to decipher the dark universe. This book explores the applications of AI and how it can be used to embark on a metaphysical quest to identify the topology of the universe as a prerequisite to implementing a physical model of the dark universe. The book is intended for a broad readership, but a background in college-level physics and computer science is essential. The book will be a valuable guide for graduate students as well as researchers in physics, astrophysics and computer science focusing on the applications of artificial intelligence in unravelling the nature of the dark universe.Key Features: - Provides readers with an intellectual toolbox to understand physical arguments on dark matter and energy- Up-to-date with the latest, cutting edge research- Authored by an expert on artificial intelligence and mathematical physicsAriel Fernández (born Ariel Fernández Stigliano, April 8, 1957) is an Argentine-American physical chemist and mathematician. He obtained a Ph. D. degree in Chemical Physics from Yale University in record time and held the Karl F. Hasselmann Endowed Chair Professorship in Engineering at Rice University until his retirement. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at the University of Chicago. To date, he has published approximately 500 scientific papers in professional journals and has also authored nine books on physical chemistry, molecular medicine, artificial intelligence, mathematical cosmology and mathematical physics. Additionally, he holds several patents on technological innovation. Fernández is a member of the National Research Council of Argentina (CONICET) and, since 2018, heads the Daruma Institute for Applied Intelligence, the research arm of AF Innovation, a Consultancy based in Argentina and the US.
The aim of this book is to demonstrate the use of business driven risk assessments to meet the requirements within privacy laws. This book introduces the cyber risk investment model, and the cybersecurity risk management framework used within business driven risk assessments to meet the intent of Privacy and Data Protection Laws. This can be used by various stakeholders who are involved in the implementation of cybersecurity measures to safeguard sensitive data. This framework facilitates an organization's risk management decision-making process to demonstrate the mechanisms in place to fund cybersecurity measures to meet Privacy Laws, and demonstrates the application of the process using two case studies: CatchMyData and Rapid Cloud Migration. This book also discusses the elements used within the cybersecurity risk management process and defines a strategic approach to minimize cybersecurity risks.Features: - Aims to strengthen the reader's understanding of industry governance, risk and compliance practices.- Incorporates an innovative approach to assess business risk management.- Explores the strategic decisions made by organizations when implementing cybersecurity measures and leverages an integrated approach to include risk management elements.
