The 9th SDL Forum, held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, during the week of June 21-25, 1999, presents papers on the development of the MSC and SDL languages. This volume represents the proceedings of the 9th SDL Forum. It presents information on experience with the use of these languages in industrial development projects.
Includes coverage of the neurochemical circuitry of the primate central nervous system. This book also includes a two-fold exposition on the human forebrain, comprised of an overview of the entire human forebrain, a focus on the basal forebrain, a critical synthesis of the primate basal ganglia, and more.
Offers advice on the assessment and treatment of pain. This book discusses the basic principles of pain, its diagnosis, the recognition of 'red' flags indicating a greater risk of serious causes and 'yellow' flags indicating a greater risk of developing more chronic pain, and the evidence-based management of a variety of conditions.
Covers a wide scope so characteristic of fluorine chemistry. This title contains a historical character comprising personalized accounts of progress and events in areas of particular interest. It contains information relating to modern organic, organoelemental and inorganic chemistry. It is suitable for historians of chemistry and technology.
Contains a selection of papers presented at the International Conference on Temperature-Fatigue Interaction, organised by the Fatigue Committee of the Societe Francaise de Metallurgie et de Materiaux (SF2M), under the auspices of the European Structural Integrity Society.
Reflects the theme that Activities Implemented Jointly (AIJ) is a major tool to facilitate practical demonstration and development of greenhouse gas mitigation technologies. This title covers such key areas as: Key Note Presentations; International Initiatives; Enhancing Sinks and Stores; Maximising Joint Benefits; and Improved Energy Technology.
This review of comparative public policy examines the foundations of public policy in Islam. It looks at issues such as: Islam and human rights; women, sexuality and social policy in Islamic cultures; Muslim family law; and Muslim commercial law.
Ceramic materials are prepared by ceramic technology, and powder substances are used as the initial raw materials. Their physical properties are an expression not only of their composition but primarily of their structure. This book aims to provide a knowledge of the structure of ceramics.
Intends to provide an account of thermodynamic and kinetic foundations on which the reaction path modeling of geological CO2 sequestration is based. This work also aims to show how reaction path modeling of geological CO2 sequestration is carried out and features applications for investigating geological carbon dioxide sequestration.
The concept of Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is often difficult to grasp, even for Magnetic Resonance physicists. This work uses illustrations to help readers to understand how DTI works. It emphasises the interpretation of DTI images, the design of DTI experiments, and the forms of application studies.
What factors affect creativity and the generation of creative images? What factors affect the ability to re-interpret those images? Research described in this book indicates that expectations constrain both of these attributes of creativity.
It can be argued that ATP is the most important molecule in cells. Not only is ATP the key energy source for cells, but it is also the source of phosphate groups that are transferred to a variety of substrate proteins via the action of elaborate families of protein kinases. An equally elaborate array of protein phosphatases can remove phosphate groups from proteins. It is now well established that protein phosphorylation is a widely used mechanism for cells to selectively modulate the function of a variety of proteins including enzymes, ion channels and pumps and structural proteins. In this volume of ACAG leading experts describe the evidence that protein phosphorylation is altered in aging and age-related disease. Protein phosphorylation controls fundamental processes such as transcription and translation, regulation of the cell cycle, signalling within and between cells, cell motility, synaptic function and so on. Recent findings are revealing how phosphorylation dependent signalling cascades may control lifespan with a prime example being the insulin-signalling pathway first described in c-elegans and now emerging as an important regulator of lifespan of mammals also. Many of the functional changes that occur during aging such as impaired learning and memory and altered energy metabolism are controlled by protein phosphorylation and it is, therefore, important to understand how mechanisms of protein phosphorylation may either mediate aging or provide adaptive responses that allow successful disease-free aging. The authors in addition to considering the roles of protein phosphorylation in aging describe the evidence that abnormalities in protein phosphorylation contribute to the pathogenesis of major age-related diseases including diabetes, atherosclerosis and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
Aims to foster the study of the legal system by economists. This two volume set forms a comprehensive and accessible survey of the state of the field.
Intended to provide scientists, R & D workers, students, technologists and international trade experts with a vocabulary of terms relating to pulping and papermaking technologies, this work contains a selection of the most frequently used terms in pulp and papermaking. It also includes terms related to pulpwood and other raw materials for pulping.
Deals with the synthesis of metal nanoclusters along all known methodologies. This book covers the physical and chemical properties of metal nanoclusters relevant to their applications in chemical processing and materials science.
