Ephrem the Syrian is the most important poet and theologian of the Syriac Christian tradition. This translation of twenty poems offers an introduction to Ephrem's work. Arranged according to his concept of salvation history, this book allows readers to explore his poetry in both its original language and in a contemporary English translation.

This work is unique among Sadra's writing in that it reworks and amplifies an earlier Persian work, the "Jawidannama". by Baba Afdal. The underlying theme of the work is the importance of self-knowledge in an individual's journey of origin and return.
