Snakes are very enigmatic creatures. They are feared, hated, and maligned. Yet probably less than fifteen percent of the world''s approximately 3,000 snake species, are venomous. Further breaking these percentages down, in North America there are approximately 150 species of snakes. Of these, only some 20 species are venomous. These venomous snakes can be broken down into four groups: Rattlesnakes, Copperheads, Water Moccasin/Cottonmouths, and Coral Snakes. Texas has all four of these groups of venomous snakes. Hernán Moreno Hinojosa is a retired Law Enforcement Officer and Author. Hernán became interested in collecting folk stories when he was only 16 and still living in Hebbronville, Texas. Hernán would frequently accompany his father to La Florida Ranch, which was leased for cattle production at the time. While out on the ranch, he became greatly interested in snakes and began writing stores about them. Some were true and some were folklore. Hernán retired from the Metro Police in 2008. He currently divides his time between their Houston home and their South Texas ranch with his wife, Herlinda Garza. They recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. They are blessed with four children; three girls, one son, and one grandson. He is still collecting ghost stories and writing. His newest books, Lechuza and The Deceiver are available in all bookstores.
"I''ve always enjoyed cooking. This cookbook is full of cherished food gifts I''d like to pass on to family, friends, and to those of you wanting to learn to make these traditional South Texas dishes before they are lost forever. Recipes with great sentimental value of dishes that my grandmother and family prepared for our many wonderful celebrations. Some dishes have been secret family treasures that I now share with you all!" ~~ Connie G. PalaciosConnie Guerrero Palacios is a South Texas native who resides in Hebbronville, Texas. Raised by her maternal grandparents in a neighboring town, Bruni, Tx, she spent quality time learning and appreciating family recipes that had, and continue to this day, bring so much joy to the people sharing these authentic home-cooked meals. Over the years, her immediate family expanded from being the eldest of five (three brothers; Servando Jr, Rene, Juan, and one sister, Erika) to gaining two half siblings (one brother, Roberto and sister, Lissa) and three stepbrothers; Lionel, Domingo, and Joe. Keeping family values and recipes close, her long standing dream was to publish a cookbook full of family pride, with intentions of sharing joy and love with other families.
