There are four great medical dictionaries, but they do not cover therapy issues as well as Idyll Arbor's Therapy Dictionary. While we realize that we have a long way to go to be as complete in terms of number of entries and coverage of medical terms, there are issues of therapy where our definitions are far more informative and complete. We believe that we are the best therapy dictionary available today. For example, see our definitions for beds and support surfaces. Considerations that really make a difference for therapeutic treatment are covered there in ways that none of the medical dictionaries attempt. Check the definition of mental retardation for the depth of information that is vital to a therapist who is providing treatment. There are many other examples of definitions that include implications for functional ability, emotional health, and therapy interventions, which cannot be found in any of the medical dictionaries. The book also contains extensive cross-referencing to help the reader better understand the meanings of words. There are six appendices in the book including medical abbreviations, units of measure, root word analytical list, miscellaneous medical symbols, Greek alphabet, and growth and development theories. We don't think that Idyll Arbor's Therapy Dictionary can replace any of the current medical dictionaries, but we think that it deserves a place on the shelf beside them.
