Francis Lachaise et Patrick Ladonski ont, durant trois ans, passé au crible les témoignages de ceux qui ont vécu cette période d'insouciance de l'American Dream aux côtés des GI's. Le camp de la Braconne en Charente s'étendait sur 730 hectares et abritait 250 bâtiments différents. La majorité d'entre eux ont été localisés et identifiés. Les photographies et documents originaux présentent la vie au quotidien des Américains, des gardes polonais et des employés français travaillant sur la base, soit quelque 2000 personnes.
