The first amateur motion picture camera was massively produced in 1923, shortly after the introduction of 9,5 mm film by the Pathé Frères in France 101 years ago, in December 1922, and of 16 mm film by the Eastman Kodak Company in America a month later. The present collection depicts 101 movie cameras manufactured between the 1920s and the 1980s, most using 8 mm perforated celluloid film. A full-page 'portrait' of each model is accompanied by an exposé of its main technical specifications on the facing page. The guided tour leafs through a range of makes and companies from an era when novelty, aesthetics, industrial design, and competition for the commercial home market propelled the creation of sculptures out of metal and glass for the wide use by individuals and families who aspired to preserve their visual impressions in motion. Elizabeth Roxanne Haysom (*1964) is the protagonist of one of the most spectacular crimes of the last decades. In March 1985, she had her parents murdered by her lover Jens Soering, the then 18-year-old son of a German diplomat. To this day, there is speculation as to whether Haysom herself was at the crime scene. - The gruesome massacre was preceded by a fierce love affair between the highly gifted students. Letters that Haysom and Soering sent to each other before the crime, as well as a joint diary they kept during the escape, are characterized by high literary quality and intellectual brilliance - and this primarily applies to Elizabeth Haysom's writings. The two perpetrators, each sentenced to 90 years, were released on parole in November 2019 after more than 33 years in prison. Elizabeth Haysom has remained silent since her conviction. Only a column that she wrote between 2003 and 2008 for a regional newspaper, the ¿Fluvanna Review¿, gives insight into her feelings and once again shows her great writing talent. These numerous essays are collected in this book, as well as a more recent statement from the year 2019.

Examining the role of language in the construction and expression of nationalism from a linguistic anthropological perspective.

The Egyptian king lists were commissioned, as early as the first dynasty, by kings wishing to legitimise their royal descent from Narmer (2838-2808), the founder of the Egyptian empire. On the other hand, Sumerian king lists were commissioned by Shulgi (2002-1954), a powerful king of Ur III in the last Sumerian dynasty, who presented himself as the heir of the famous Gilgamesh (2447-2401), attributing to him the role of founder of the Sumerian empire, even though Gilgamesh, king of Uruk, knew that his city had been founded by EN AMAR.UTU (c.3000-2950), called Bel Marduk by the Babylonians. What's more, he also knew from the Akkadian governor of Babel (a word meaning "Gate of God" in Hebrew, later translated into Sumerian as KA.DINGIR.RA) that Marduk had built a temple next to the gigantic four-storey ziggurat, called E.TEMEN.AN.KI ("temple of the foundation of the sky/heavens and the earth") by the Sumerians, the famous Tower of Babel. The Sumerian king lists therefore completely obscured the role of Babylon's founder Marduk, a powerful hunter called Nimrod ("we will rebel") in the Bible (Gn 10:9-10), in order to conceal the collapse of his empire, referred to by archaeologists as the "Uruk expansion" (c.2950-2900). The Akkadian scribes of Shulgi, informed by some descendants of Noah (ZI.U4.SUD.RA "life of prolonged days" in Sumerian) living in Ur (like Abraham's family), traced the beginning of the mythical unified Sumerian kingship back to the 10th and last antediluvian king of Shuruppak, the famous survivor of the universal flood, named Ziusudra, or Noah, who lived 350 years after the universal flood (Gn 9:28), in 3170 BCE (LXX), and died in 2820 BCE, the beginning of the first Sumerian dynasty (Kish I). Marduk's role did not reappear until Hammurabi (1657-1654), who chose to glorify his capital "Babylon the Great" (Dn 4:30; Rv 17:18; 14:8), dedicating it to its founder: the Lord (Bel) Marduk (Jr 50:2), the powerful hunter whom the Sumerians had originally represented as the "Master of the Animals" clasping two lions in his arms. So, history did indeed begin at Sumer, but only the biblical text explains the role of its founder (Marduk).

From observing life in general, it is obvious that movement is an ever-changing sequence through creation to destruction and re-creation. All nature, humankind naturally included, relies on change, action and exercising change. The study of action and change, through exercise, is a study of the Way of Life. Over millennia, along with the study of the heavens, the stars and the natural world, humankind has systematically explored the realm of its known universe through movement, in all its aspects. On a human level, this has been for enhancing, not only the visual aspects of our actions, such as in dance, nor just for personal protection and longevity, as in the martial arts, but also for enhancing the metaphysical and psychological realms of one's own personal universe. This has been through meditative arrangements (sitting, standing and moving), to bring about a more harmonious and healthful standard of living with the greater 'spiritual' development, based on awareness of the need for peaceful communal living and loving one's neighbour as oneself. The nurturing of qi, with the development and practice of chi-kung and Tai-chi Ch'uan has been but one facet of this worldwide awakening, all be it a very influential and important one. Yet, while perfection of movement might seem an outer goal, it is the development of the inner core and rediscovering the spontaneity of the child within, through aspects of meditation, that is far more important for civilized, harmonious living.
