Elizabeth Roxanne Haysom (*1964) is the protagonist of one of the most spectacular crimes of the last decades. In March 1985, she had her parents murdered by her lover Jens Soering, the then 18-year-old son of a German diplomat. To this day, there is speculation as to whether Haysom herself was at the crime scene. - The gruesome massacre was preceded by a fierce love affair between the highly gifted students. Letters that Haysom and Soering sent to each other before the crime, as well as a joint diary they kept during the escape, are characterized by high literary quality and intellectual brilliance - and this primarily applies to Elizabeth Haysom's writings. The two perpetrators, each sentenced to 90 years, were released on parole in November 2019 after more than 33 years in prison. Elizabeth Haysom has remained silent since her conviction. Only a column that she wrote between 2003 and 2008 for a regional newspaper, the ¿Fluvanna Review¿, gives insight into her feelings and once again shows her great writing talent. Sadly, over time, John lost two wives and several of their children, but others survived and the family grew. The Ridouts are traced through to WW2 and beyond; latterly, the cold genealogical facts are gradually warmed with photographs, anecdotes and personal memories.Of the related families, some are traced & described: The SOMERTONs were a well known dynasty from Bristol, three generations of which had printed, published and written for newspapers of the day, most notably the Bristol Mercury. In 16th century Widcombe, just south of the city, lived farmers Tobias and Thomas ORCHARD; their children eventually moved into the centre: Joseph was a popular peruke maker in the Abbey Green, made famous by poet Christopher Anstey. Jacob, the Quaker, made biscuits; his sons Abraham & Isaac were friends of John Wesley and helped to bring Methodism to Bath. ARCHARD's pawnbroker's shop was prominent in 15 Bath Street; Thomas and his son were also local politicians. One branch of the Orchards married into the famous Irish Guinness family. Other prominent names include BEATON and OLLIS, two well known Bath families who lived, worked and died in Walcot, an historically fascinating thoroughfare in Bath. It was Walcot Street in which Elsie Beaton and Reginald Ridout, lived with their respective families, but met, married and eventually became my grandparents.

All nature, humankind naturally included, relies on change, action and exercising change. The study of action and change, through exercise, is a study of the Way of Life. Over millennia, along with the study of the heavens, the stars and the natural world, humankind has systematically explored the realm of its known universe through movement, in all its aspects. On a human level, this has been for enhancing, not only the visual aspects of our actions, such as in dance, nor just for personal protection and longevity, as in the martial arts, but also for enhancing the metaphysical and psychological realms of one's own personal universe.
