Occult advice for those on the Magical Path The magical path is full of pitfalls, blind alleys, and many monsters that will get in your way. Occult, philosophical teachers and books provided short aphorisms for students to help them guide their way and prevent them from being eaten by too many metaphorical dragons. These books have fallen by the wayside, along with the collective knowledge of those teachers. In Things my Hierophant should have told me, the occult writer and magician Nick Farrell brings together a collection of short essays providing advice for those moments when a demon has disembowelled your cat or your washing machine appears possessed by an Eldritch abomination. Packed full of cartoons and illustrations, Farrell is sometimes silly and light-hearted about questions that he has been taking seriously for 30 years. This book was first written a decade ago for a select group and has been extensively expanded and improved for a wider audience by Farrell's more recent experiences and experiments. It also includes answers to questions that he regularly fields on social media. Things my Hierophant should have told me, is a book for those on the path to pick up and read a paragraph or two whenever there is a spare moment between the terror which is their existence to reassure them that it is probably going okay.

The first amateur motion picture camera was massively produced in 1923, shortly after the introduction of 9,5 mm film by the Pathé Frères in France 101 years ago, in December 1922, and of 16 mm film by the Eastman Kodak Company in America a month later. The present collection depicts 101 movie cameras manufactured between the 1920s and the 1980s, most using 8 mm perforated celluloid film. A full-page 'portrait' of each model is accompanied by an exposé of its main technical specifications on the facing page. The guided tour leafs through a range of makes and companies from an era when novelty, aesthetics, industrial design, and competition for the commercial home market propelled the creation of sculptures out of metal and glass for the wide use by individuals and families who aspired to preserve their visual impressions in motion. The book is a useful source for hobbyists and collectors.

  • by Elizabeth Haysom
    £16.99

Elizabeth Roxanne Haysom (*1964) is the protagonist of one of the most spectacular crimes of the last decades. In March 1985, she had her parents murdered by her lover Jens Soering, the then 18-year-old son of a German diplomat. To this day, there is speculation as to whether Haysom herself was at the crime scene. - The gruesome massacre was preceded by a fierce love affair between the highly gifted students. Letters that Haysom and Soering sent to each other before the crime, as well as a joint diary they kept during the escape, are characterized by high literary quality and intellectual brilliance - and this primarily applies to Elizabeth Haysom's writings. The two perpetrators, each sentenced to 90 years, were released on parole in November 2019 after more than 33 years in prison. Elizabeth Haysom has remained silent since her conviction. Only a column that she wrote between 2003 and 2008 for a regional newspaper, the ¿Fluvanna Review¿, gives insight into her feelings and once again shows her great writing talent. These numerous essays are collected in this book, as well as a more recent statement from the year 2019.

  • by Jean-Marc Berthoud

From the authors of Beauty in Decay: Photos from Chernobyl comes another photo book, this time set in the wilderness of South Africa.Included within are stunning vistas, radiant sunsets, wild animals, curious birds, strange bugs and colorful plants, as well as a few signs of civilization here and there, along with various interesting facts.Although South Africa can be breathtakingly beautiful, it can also be quite brutal, as is illustrated by the inclusion of a few more morbid subjects that the authors came across on their journey.

From 'The Ridouts of Sherborne', this second book follows my 3x great grandfather John RIDOUT as he moved from the rural Dorset town to the bustling Roman city of Bath in 1807; here he married, had children and started a cabinet-making business. Sadly, over time, John lost two wives and several of their children, but others survived and the family grew. The Ridouts are traced through to WW2 and beyond; latterly, the cold genealogical facts are gradually warmed with photographs, anecdotes and personal memories.Of the related families, some are traced & described: The SOMERTONs were a well known dynasty from Bristol, three generations of which had printed, published and written for newspapers of the day, most notably the Bristol Mercury. In 16th century Widcombe, just south of the city, lived farmers Tobias and Thomas ORCHARD; their children eventually moved into the centre: Joseph was a popular peruke maker in the Abbey Green, made famous by poet Christopher Anstey. Jacob, the Quaker, made biscuits; his sons Abraham & Isaac were friends of John Wesley and helped to bring Methodism to Bath. ARCHARD's pawnbroker's shop was prominent in 15 Bath Street; Thomas and his son were also local politicians. One branch of the Orchards married into the famous Irish Guinness family. Other prominent names include BEATON and OLLIS, two well known Bath families who lived, worked and died in Walcot, an historically fascinating thoroughfare in Bath. It was Walcot Street in which Elsie Beaton and Reginald Ridout, lived with their respective families, but met, married and eventually became my grandparents.

What-do-i-know Implies that a statement is based on a guess or assumption rather than on knowledge or evidence. It is only fair to give this title to this specific book, because it all started that way. There is only one way. Facts are the only way. Facts can never fail. What you will find in this book is a desire, an action, ideas to act upon what you presume to be truth... All you need to do is follow the instructions as written. We need to take responsibility for our ignorance and learn from what is supplied. Sure it is a struggle at first, just like cooking, cutting hair, fixing cars or playing the guitar, but if you persevere you will gradually build understanding. Why would this matter? Well it matters because we know fully well what's going on here and how and why is happening and why did it happen. We need to be able to recognise the patterns and we definitely need to grow up and take action. The way is not always clear and that's okay, there's not a single one way to follow, well, there's no one to follow to be honest. It is a unique path, a path that you will build. Yes you can go read other peoples work, or listen to a podcast but, it will all come down to You, what use will you give to the energy that you spend doing that research or whatever the source of your choosing. Let's not forget that all the sum of your experiences will determine the knowledge accumulated and the action taken towards that finish line, Your finish line. I surely HOPE you enjoy this book and remember we know nothing at all!!

What you are about to read between the covers of this book is the fourth volume of the collected works of Paolo Cavalli. We first encountered Paolo through his published works and then through several online forums (including some of the non-public ones). In all of these he graciously shared with us his wisdom and experience. Over the years we have exchanged literally hundreds of emails with him in which we have discussed creative and artistic topics in addition to personal and private matters. We have come to know him as a man whose literary skills and empathy are only surpassed by his helpfulness and generosity. We have learned so much from his creative genius, and gained so much inspiration from our conversations, that claiming he influenced our work would be a huge understatement. You will therefore understand how delighted we were when Paolo kindly agreed to allow us to republish his works in printed format. We have always held the view that Paolo's works were not as widely known or appreciated as they might be or, indeed, to the extent that they deserved. Many of the ideas and concepts that you'll find within these pages are not only genuine and original but also reveal the mind-set of a deep and unconventional thinker. The first volumes of The Cavalli Files comprise Paolo's previous published works. The final volumes, under the title Notes from the Lord's Diary, will offer you something really special: Drafts, outlines and expose¿s from Paolo's original sketch books! Parts of these are his 'works in progress', ideas and concepts that have never before seen the light of day. When Paolo sent us his material we set about revising the text and adjusting the layout. Then we thought long and hard about whether or not we should get it proofread and copy edited. Finally, we decide against it. If you didn't already know you could probably guess from his surname alone that English is not Paolo's native language. And even though his skills in the English language are extraordinary you may still spot some Italian syntax and sentence construction. And as you hear the Italian accent coming through the text you may find yourself transported to the sweeping vistas of the land of fine arts - Italia. This voice will, we hope, help you to connect with Paolo as if he was speaking to you personally in your own room.So here we go! We proudly present the fourth volume of The Cavalli Files: The Flytrap Experience!

This book discusses the origins of internet in the context of globalization, the emergence of World Wide Web and Podcasting phenomena. It focuses on a young man's opinion in the context of digitalization and war. The author uses a historical perspective and his journalistic ability to objectively describe Joe Rogan as an individual who has influence on society due to his communication output. The book is full of humorous takes on irreversible societal and technological changes, war, and communication as a whole. This book is recommended for everyone interested in politics, podcasting, comedy or technology. 'Creating these robots and observing how they learn, we want to see how they gradually begin to understand that they are created by us, that their existence is conditioned by simulation. Doing all this, being so inventive, we find a way to continue fighting. Rivers of blood flow. The gods of war are pleased, but their hunger never ends. The technologies I mentioned earlier march hand in hand with human interest. Drones are used to blow up houses, and artificial intelligencespies on your private life. Private? What's that? Artificial intelligence continues to carry packets encoded with ones and zeros through fields and mountains, carried by electricity and thin cables. Bullets, explosions, dirt, and poverty are much closer and more tangible concepts for an ordinary worker...In Ukraine, the land is nourished by blood, ashes, and the remains of the fallen. Later, it will yield crops and sunflowers. Fields and meadows will flourish. The harvest will be abundant because the fertilizers were highly effective and plentiful. The fields will fall under Corporate America and Corporate Deutschland. They will cultivate and sell food for future generations. Everything is planned and calculated. Fields will be worked by robots, occasionally unearthing the bones of Ukrainian soldiers.'

In essence, chi-kung and Tai-chi Ch'uan training are a means of exercising the life force, the qi, within oneself. From observing life in general, it is obvious that movement is an ever-changing sequence through creation to destruction and re-creation. All nature, humankind naturally included, relies on change, action and exercising change. The study of action and change, through exercise, is a study of the Way of Life. Over millennia, along with the study of the heavens, the stars and the natural world, humankind has systematically explored the realm of its known universe through movement, in all its aspects. On a human level, this has been for enhancing, not only the visual aspects of our actions, such as in dance, nor just for personal protection and longevity, as in the martial arts, but also for enhancing the metaphysical and psychological realms of one's own personal universe. This has been through meditative arrangements (sitting, standing and moving), to bring about a more harmonious and healthful standard of living with the greater 'spiritual' development, based on awareness of the need for peaceful communal living and loving one's neighbour as oneself. The nurturing of qi, with the development and practice of chi-kung and Tai-chi Ch'uan has been but one facet of this worldwide awakening, all be it a very influential and important one. Yet, while perfection of movement might seem an outer goal, it is the development of the inner core and rediscovering the spontaneity of the child within, through aspects of meditation, that is far more important for civilized, harmonious living.
