Books published by Materials Research Society

This wide-ranging volume presents a series of cutting-edge contributions in the field of materials and their application in art and history. Areas covered include selection, production and usage, deterioration, preservation and conservation, and sociocultural interpretation.

'Functional Two-Dimensional Layered Materials', held at the April 2011 MRS Spring Meeting (San Francisco, California) was the first MRS symposium focusing on graphene, topological insulator thin films and other 2D and quasi-2D materials together, highlighting breakthroughs, progress and challenges in the synthesis, processing, structure and assembly of 2D layered materials.

Symposium K and Symposium RR were held April 21-25 at the 2014 MRS Spring Meeting. This symposium proceedings volume represents the recent advances in various areas of deposition, processing, characterization and integration of functional oxide materials, with particular emphasis on the relationship among the structure, composition, stability and functional properties.

The Materials Research Society Symposium B, 'Multifunctional Polymeric and Hybrid Materials', was held November 30 - December 5 at the 2014 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston.

Symposium EE, entitled 'Scientific Basis for Nuclear Waste Management XXXVIII', was held from 30 November to 5 December 2014, 2014, at the MRS Fall Meeting in Boston. The symposium attracted 85 abstracts. This proceedings volume contains 31 papers from the meeting.

The XXIII International Materials Research Congress was held on August 17-21, 2014, in Cancun, Mexico. It was organized by the Sociedad Mexicana de Materiales (SMM). About 1,500 specialized scientists from more than 40 countries participated in the 30 different symposia, workshops, plenary lectures and tutorial courses.

Symposium M, 'Materials and Technology for Nonvolatile Memories', was held November 30-December 5 at the 2014 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, which was a follow up of previous symposia on nonvolatile memories. This volume represents the recent advances and related material issues on various kinds of nonvolatile memory technologies.

This publication presents papers from Symposium 8A, 'Cultural Heritage and Archaeological Issues in Materials Science (CHARIMSc)', of the XXII International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) held in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico in August 2013.

There were eleven symposia conducted with a focus on biomaterials under the sub-class of 'Biomaterials and Soft Matter' at the MRS 2013 fall meeting. Symposia H, C, D and J have been combined into this proceedings volume.

This volume includes a collection of papers presented at the MRS Symposium TT, 'Laser-Material Interactions at Micro/Nanoscales'. This symposium provided an interdisciplinary forum for scientists and engineers from different fields to discuss the physical, chemical, thermal and mechanical phenomena that occur during laser-material interactions at micro and nano scales.

Titanium dioxide nanomaterials have been showing very promising applications in many fields. More than 160 papers, presentations and posters were accepted in Symposium GG, 'Titanium Dioxide Nanomaterials', at 2011 MRS Spring Meeting. This volume includes selected papers which cover the synthesis, properties and applications of titanium dioxide nanomaterials.

Symposium II, 'Ion Beams - New Applications from Mesoscale to Nanoscale', was held at the 2011 MRS Spring Meeting, April 25-29, in San Francisco, California. This symposium welcomed presentations on ion-beam engineering and characterization of materials properties, structure, topography and functionality, spanning dimensions from the mesoscale to the nanoscale.

For almost two decades now, the carbon nanomaterial (CNM) system has persistently provided researchers the opportunity for spectacular new discoveries, significant advances in fundamental and applied science, and the development of disruptive technologies and applications. These exciting developments and others are covered in this volume.

At the Material Research Society Spring 2013 meeting, held in San Francisco April 1-5, 2013, three symposia were held focusing on thermal-to-electric energy conversion and thermal transport: Symposium H: Nanoscale Thermoelectrics - Materials and Transport Phenomena - II, Symposium I: Materials for Solid-State Refrigeration, and Symposium V: Nanoscale Heat Transport - From Fundamentals to Devices.

Symposium C, 'Thin-Film Compound Semiconductor Photovoltaics' and Symposium FF, 'Compound Semiconductors for Generating, Emitting, and Manipulating Energy - II' were held on April 1-5 at the 2013 MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco, California. This combined symposia Proceedings represents the latest technical advancements and information on compound semiconductors.

Symposium M, 'Solution Synthesis of Inorganic Functional Materials - Films, Nanoparticles, and Nanocomposites' was held April 1-5, 2013 at the 2013 MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco, California. The symposium was focused on solution synthesis approaches for the growth of a wide range of advanced functional inorganic materials.

Symposium A, 'Film Silicon Science and Technology', was held April 1-5, 2013 at the 2013 MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco, California.

Symposium JJ on 'Intermetallic-Based Alloys: Science, Technology and Applications' was held from November 26-28 at the 2012 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. This volume gives a representative overview of the current state of research on intermetallic phases and identifies areas for future research.

Symposium Z, 'Oxide Semiconductors', and Symposium F, 'Oxide Thin Films for Renewable Energy Applications', were held November 25-30 at the 2012 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. This volume aims at providing a fundamental understanding of bulk oxide materials as well as thin films and nano-structures.

Symposium D, 'Energy Critical Materials' and Symposium G, 'Materials as Tools for Sustainability', were held on November 25-30 at the 2012 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. This volume presents a compilation of emerging research on sustainable development in the context of product manufacturing, catalysis, transportation, and energy-critical materials.

Symposium B, 'Thermoelectric Materials Research and Device Development for Power Conversion and Refrigeration', held from November 26-30 at the 2012 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, was the tenth in a series of symposia on state-of-the-art materials and technologies for direct thermal-to-electric energy conversion.

Symposium HH, 'Advances in Materials for Nuclear Energy', was held November 25-30 at the 2012 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. This volume represents recent advances in materials for nuclear energy applications.

This volume represents a collection of papers from five distinct yet related symposia: L, M, Q, R, and S, held at the 2012 MRS Fall Meeting from November 25-30, 2012, in Boston, Massachusetts.

With the continued aim of providing a forum where the latest developments in nanoscience and nanotechnology can be presented and discussed, the XXI International Materials Research Congress, held in Cancun, Mexico in August 2012, hosted the Nanostructured Materials and Nanotechnology Symposium. This volume compiles a number of the contributions presented.

This proceedings volume provides a glimpse of the recent developments in the chemical solution growth of nanoparticles, nanocrystals, films, and nanostructured materials for various applications.

This volume contains papers presented at Symposium HH 'Nanocomposites, Nanostructures and Heterostructures of Correlated Oxide Systems' held in San Francisco, California, April 9-13, 2012, during the JSAP-MRS Joint Spring Meeting (JSAP: Japan Society of Applied Physics).
