Beginning in 1907 as Arkansas State Normal School through today's University of Central Arkansas (UCA), this book describes the development of the academic discipline of chemistry from academic and personal perspectives. With humorous and heartwarming storytelling, the character and contributions of two central figures in the history of chemistry at UCA are emphasized: Everett E. Cordrey (1914-1950) and Jerald M. Manion (1965-2014). The influences of major national and international events are addressed, such as World War I, attacks on education during the 1920s, the Great Depression, World War II, changing social norms during the 1960s and 1970s, and an increased activity in and influence of scientific research in recent decades.

Living in Nature is another topic in this book that opens the heart to joy. Dottie has also suffered bouts of depression, and she takes us through her rise from illness to wellness. But life is celebrated in the pages of this book, too, because after everything is said and done, life is good.

Inspired by the beauty and culture of old California, author Louise Schwartz's debut novel is a story of murder and revenge set in high society with weavings of Anglo, Spanish, and Chumash Indian cultures. In Montecito, settings now lost to history become the gardens of discovery. In 1962, Emma Chase returns from France to her grandmother's home in Montecito, California, for her husband's ashes. Harry was murdered, stabbed to death, his body found on the railroad tracks––without fingers. Emma leaves Paris and her husband's sinister friends behind and returns home resolved to find the murderer. At home with her grandmother, Emma is pulled back into a world of privilege and secrecy. In research archives on another Montecito estate she finds secrets of a Chumash Indian society that have too much to do with her husband's murder. Emma meets the families tied to the land, finds suitors and sex, murder and international secrets. Finally, with the help of a local police detective, Emma makes her way through the dense foliage of Montecito, of family, of history, to the murder itself.
James Lucot's very personal narrative speaks as a story of the evolution of a soul. His raw, poignant, and sometimes haunting childhood experiences develop into an authentic metamorphosis as an adult. His words reflect a genuine effort to not erase the past in an effort to survive, but to truly wrestle with events and emotions in order to embrace his own life with more resolution, gratitude, and dignity. The culminating triumph of the work rests in the beauty of truth to make us stronger, better, and whole. His honesty in addressing the past and its consequences in his present stand as an open encouragement and call to all of us to recognize ourselves, to dig deeply into the events that shape who we are, and confidently move forward and evolve in hope. - Alison E. Schuster, Esq.

The Adventures of Mom and Dad's Bed is about celebrating family, imagination, and togetherness. It speaks to the wonder held within mom and dad's bed. In times of sorrow or illness, it has the magical powers of healing. On scary nights, it's a place of safety. Even when everything is going well, it is a place where siblings congregate and enjoy each other's company, letting their imaginations run wild on mom and dad's bed. I have always been amazed at how sought out our bed has been by all of my children. As a senior manager that develop and supervise social service programs for families of children with disabilities; celebrating family, imagination, and togetherness bring purpose to my life. My work with families and children has developed my insight into the power of the togetherness that story time and a very dynamic piece of furniture can create.

The apostle Paul, writing to believers at Corinth, stated: “For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?” 1 Corinthians 14: 8, KJV. The context of Paul’s query was a controversy with respect to speaking in tongues; however, the uncertainty of the trumpet being sounded by today’s Christian leaders and teachers in summoning the church to battle is with respect to broader issues, such as God’s existence and preeminence. The confusion arises out of theological ignorance, since would-be defenders of the true gospel are not being equipped to participate in the debate regarding whether Christianity has a sound basis metaphysically, mystically, or in the physical laws that govern the universe ( i.e., mechanically). Attorney Ron Case accordingly felt a call, following his retirement from a career as a child welfare advocate in the courts of New York, to research and muster the arguments for God as Creator, for Jesus as the only means of access to God the Father, and for God as wholly sovereign while man is wholly free. The result was the present book, which will hopefully give valuable information and assurance both to Christians who are teaching and to would-be believers who are reaching. The intended audience is a hypothetical ‘gentle reader’ who might fit one or the other of the above descriptions.
The funny thing about life is we all have to make choices. Unfortunately, the choices we make aren't always the right ones. Malaysia Jennings has made multiple choices that may not have been in her best interest at times. The decisions she made most of the time were purely based on instant emotions. Sometimes unpredictable storms forced Malaysia to make choices that were not always the best options. Perhaps being raped, abandoned, and homeless were tragedies that led her to make those arduous decisions beyond her control.
The year is 1715. Pirates patrolled the shores, Indian tribes populated the area, while plantations built by slaves began to rise in splendor among the harsh setting that is the South Carolina coast. This is the story of Mary, a teenager who was born into slavery and who had lived her life as a house slave on an indigo plantation in the coastal swamps of South Carolina. She had worked for someone who would have been considered by most as a benevolent mistress, the wife of the plantation owner. But things quickly changed when the mistress disappeared at sea and Mary was sold by a grieving husband for a mere two gold coins to another master, a master with evil in his heart. As she was sailing away from all she had ever known to an existence with a cruel master, she did the only thing she could. Her escape into the South Carolina swamps took more courage than she thought she had, for the swamps contained something she feared even more than slavery - Indians. But her escape led her to a new life, one she could have never imagined. Winyah serves up a breathtaking tale of heroism in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Once you begin Mary's tale of rugged adventure and struggle for freedom and dignity you will be breathless for more.
A lot of people within and without of the body of Christ are suffering silently, because they have not confronted their painful and devastating experiences. God does not want His children to go through life hiding behind masks and suppressing past hurtful experiences. In this awesome autobiography, Michele emphasizes that you cannot be all that Go has called you to be, if you continue to hold on to wounds from your past. Michele takes her readers on a journey, to show them that a distressing past does not have to dictate the outcome of their future. Her message is clear that God can take every negative experience and turn it into something magnificent, whether individuals have experienced abuse or other misfortunes which may be holding them back from enjoying life to the fullest. The Silent Sufferer will help others to confront their agonizing past, and to allow God's healing power to heal, comfort and put them back on the right path. She accentuates that no matter what an individual has encountered, it is still God's desire for them to walk in His purpose and destiny for their lives, and to experience peace and joy!
