The first half of this history is a narrative account of the Division's services in Mesopotamia from the time it disembarked through to the end of the war. There are listings of all its constituents elements, and this informaton alone makes the publication a useful source of reference. The second half is a roll of all the British officers who served with every British and Indian Army unit which came under the Division's command during that period. The names are conveniently arranged under Div. HQ, BDE HQs, Regts, and all ancillary units and sub-units.A very helpful source for genealogists and medal collectors.
This scarce work (in it's original printing) covers the period stated in the title in detail. Importantly, it has good coverage of several little-known operations in the West Indies and in West Africa. Apps: List of former COs (1795-1892), chronology of movements and stations.
The official 1935 British War Office guide to the Battle of the Marne in September 1914, the action in which the German advance by von Kluck's First and von Bulow's Second Armies on Paris was checked at the instigation of General Gallieni and then turned back by the action of the French Fifth and Sixth Armies and the BEF, and which changed the whole course of the Great War. The pack consists of a preliminary account of the events leading up to the battle, with relevant notes on infantry and cavalry tactics from the 1914 Training Manuals. A day-by-day summary of the battle between 8-10th September; a suggested tour of the battlefield; a section on the principal lessons learned from the battle and a concluding section showing the order of battle of the British, French and German forces engaged. The text is accompanied by three large battlefield maps depicting the unfolding situation on the 8th, 9th and 10th September. An indispensible and authoritative addition to the libraries of all Great War enthusiasts.
