The book is a collection of stories and situations a game warden will encounter in his work. The work can be difficult and very disheartening and at times very gratifying. Wardens do much more than enforcing fish and game law, and many of these activities are noted. I have offered a few tips about hunting and fishing, which I have learned during my seventy-five years of participation in these activities and observations gathered while spending countless hours in the great outdoors. The goal of this book is to inform the public about a warden's life and the many things he is involved with in his work. I'm sure there will be some who will be critical of what I've put on paper, but I can assure you, what I've written ain't fiction. I hope you purchase a copy of my book, read it with an open mind, enjoy a few laughs, learn some things you weren't aware of, come away with a little more support, and hopefully respect for the work a game warden does for wildlife and benefits created for those who care about our great natural resources today and for generations to come.
This is a fascinating story about how a man acquires the ability to change three things a day--from minute little requests to ideas that change the country and the world for the better. Enjoy the ride with Franstaffski, the CNN broadcaster Janeen, and the president of the United States. Could a what-if ever come true?
The story line begins with a commercial helicopter departing on its final flight of the evening from Midway Airport located on the Southwest Side of Chicago. Its destination is O'Hare International Airport just eleven miles away. Inside the Sikorsky aircraft are two senior pilots flying local businessmen to their various connecting flights. The weather that evening was a typical summer night with few clouds and clear visibility, allowing the aircraft to fly under visual flight rules. Instead of reaching its scheduled destination, the helicopter encounters a catastrophic event, causing it to suddenly begin to spin out of control and crash into a nearby cemetery just shortly after taking off. Everyone on board was killed despite a heroic effort of skillful flying by the copilot. Although the event immediately caused several areas of concern for the company and several questions about future safe operations, the FAA ruled that the accident was simply the result of a structural failure, which caused the tail section rotor blade to separate from the main body of the aircraft. The reader barely gets a chance to breathe as the story line moves rapidly from the time period of July 27, 1960, to the current day when a newly elected congressman with presidential aspirations has encouraged a new investigation into the circumstances of that fatal day, the reason being that it was his uncle who had been the helicopter captain. That opportunity quickly arrives when the congressman visits the location where the helicopter had crashed and, while he is there, meets a private investigator who was visiting the grave of his departed relative. Then hired by the congressman to look into the past event, the detective soon learns that there's much more to this story than just an aircraft mishap. Within a short period of time, he discovers that the helicopter was carrying the briefcase that had originally belonged to the passenger who had been denied passage on the flight even though he had been holding a confirmed ticket. That briefcase destined for Tombstone, Arizona, was never located, nor was it ever explained as to why the helicopter had left the departure gate with one empty seat.Swinging Gates is an edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting, page-turner of a novel that takes you to the dark side of Washington, DC, where the reader soon begins to get the feeling that the people that now work at the White House and those back in Illinois are failing to tell the complete story. Swinging Gates is a complex political thriller, one that has the reader turning the pages to find out what is really going on.
The Drake twins have been locked away forever, and the trauma they caused is preparing to heal, but that only leads to older wounds being reopened.Frederick comes to Lesley, Malcolm, and Julian with a problem: the agents of MI6 seem to be under siege by an unknown ailment. Strange, erratic behavior, fights breaking out without any source. Determined, they set about investigating, but nothing is as it seems. The crew is joined by a face from Malcolm's past, which only further aggravates the situation. Before too long, Malcolm starts exhibiting the same weird behavior that the agents did. All at once, the case goes from objective to deeply personal. With Malcolm ostensibly out of commission and under siege himself, Lesley and Julian must find a cure, or risk having to keep him locked up forever. What they discover, both about themselves and each other, is not what they expect. And it is certainly not what they are prepared for.
This book is a peek into the author's subconscious and the movie-like dreams she has had over a few years. She even included some of the scenes she saw in detail.
¿¿Now in my eighties, I met scores of famous people within the motorcycle and car racing world and became lifelong friends with many of them. I'd work and professionally road race for the Honda, Yamaha, and Bridgestone factory teams, win national championships for two of them, and be associated with Bombardier, maker of Ski-Doo snowmobiles and Sea-Doo watercraft when they undertook the development and manufacture of the Can-Am, a North American off-road motorcycle to challenge the Japanese. I'd also spend forty-years importing Bombardier-Rotax racing engines from Austria. I'd do motorcycle development projects for several other manufacturers and even a motorcycle project for General Motors, then the largest corporation the world had ever known. I'd win the Baja 500 off-road car race for another automobile manufacturer, American Motors, on a team sponsored by film star James Garner, with teammate Bob Bondurant, a former Formula 1 race car driver. But all that was yet to come and in no way could I have portended what excitement, success, and personal notoriety lay ahead in my then-young life.I'd become living proof that the United States was truly the land of opportunity. If one was prepared to be dedicated and work hard, almost any dream could come true.
William Morgan, after thirty years of marriage, has left his old life behind him and has moved to a comfortable and modern log cabin in the woods of upstate New York, searching for the peace, solitude, and satisfaction he was never able to find as the titular head of a family and business. While walking through the beautiful wooded area that acted as the borders of the land that surrounded his home, he came upon a small shivering golden retriever puppy that was huddled against a huge pine tree. He named the puppy Fortune.William and Fortune enjoyed a mutually satisfying life together until Carolyn James, a battered and abused wife on the run from her husband, literally crashed into their lives. That was the beginning of a life together for the three of them that none of them had expected but lived it to the extreme.

Some divisions have miscellaneous poems included. My life experiences and travels are reflected throughout the book.
The Harbingers of Spring is fiction and is a tale of hope set in the surroundings of the author's grandfather's farm in Brown County, Indiana, of memories from the first decades of his life, born of childhood loneliness, amid things he would do if he had the choice to get people to come and visit. This book follows decades of the development of a festival in the Sweetwater Creek valley. It is a presentation of equality and diversity that follows a girl and boy in their pursuit of forbidden love. It presents a global input into a microcosm while the harbingers of spring, from the constellations to the flowers to the wildlife, to annual happenings, mark the growth and education of the two main characters. This education is punctuated by the genetic development of a grand champion bull and a bloodline of prized cattle and the production of mules. A world court is depicted that hears cases of the lovelorn, annually, and gives opinions up to and including the provision of weddings. The book depicts the conversations of all introduced characters from wherever to the constants of the rural setting: the rules of bathing on the porch in a washtub and spitting on one's finger to entice the butterflies and making a bed of two pairs of pants for lovemaking. The story expands out of harsh fundamentalism, the ugliness of the gangs of Great Britain, the old assertion that behind every great fortune lies a crime (Balzac 1834), the drug cartels, and the systematic destruction in the prisoner of war camps. Love does triumph. The driving force of the girl protagonist is the belief that if you have been denied of your own dreams, you should do whatever you can to help others not be denied their dreams. The Harbingers of Spring is a retelling of stories made up by the author to maintain interest by his wife in fighting leukemia, born of desperation--an effort to entice her to want to hang on, just to hear one more story, and a plea for her to continue to live.
After Beth Stewart's parents got divorce, she lived with her father during the summers on a ranch in the high-mountain plains of Northern Arizona. This was where she met and fell in love with Monty Jarrett. They both enrolled in the same university and were happy until her mother encouraged her to date other boys. Devastated, Monty felt like he could no longer be near her. With the war in Vietnam still raging, the young cowboy joined the army rather than to wait to be drafted.Matt Stryker, Beth's illegitimate half brother, took over his mother's real estate business in Phoenix, Arizona. On a trip to visit family, Matt met Laura Patterson, a chef from San Francisco. He proposed to her a few months later, and Laura accepted. But she was unaware that Matt still struggled with the love he had lost.Raised by her grandparents in Germany, Marthe Lange never knew the mother that gave birth to her or the father that abandoned her. After the death of her grandmother, Marthe journeyed to San Diego, California, as an exchange student. Knowing that her father lived close by, she wrote to him. And a few days later, Monty Jarrett came to meet the daughter he had never known. This is the story of five people, their lives woven together over time. Decisions were made, loved ones lost, and new ones found. Eventually, the paths of these people will emerge, fate inevitably drawing them together across the bands of time, tearing at the fabric of their emotions.
There are many books covering the rules of golf but very little written on how to be a golf referee (rules official). Most people do not realize that almost all golf referees are volunteers. Sure many of them get lunch or breakfast covered while at a tournament. But very few actually get paid. The comradery and passion for the game of golf are what inspires most golf enthusiasts to begin an exploration of the rules. From there, many want to help with golf tournaments. There is very little guidance other than word of mouth on how to become involved or what golf referees do. Some seem to think that golf referees hang out in the woods and race out in a golf cart to tell a player they incurred a penalty. But on the contrary, we try to help players avoid penalties and be there for them when they have questions to insure they play according to the rules. We also help set up the course (set the tees, mark the course, and choose hole locations) and set up the tournament (notice to players, local rules, starting times, and many other administrative duties). We hope this book provides a different side of golf that might inspire you to become a golf referee.
Learning to go potty is a huge milestone in a child's life. When I Get That Feeling Near My Booty works to help children understand that going potty is entirely normal--we all do it! This fun and silly book also tells children to listen to their body's needs and uses rhymes to help them remember which steps to follow when they get that feeling near their booty!
Just Saying is a gathering of short stories, thoughts, and subjects presented in a random format. There is no sequence or timeline to follow. You can start anywhere and even stop in the middle if that's your preference. Or read from beginning to end. That would be my preference, of course. Each piece is meant to stand on its own just like the characters and experiences that inspired this collection.I hope you find something on each page or in each story that will bring you a smile or a tear, an aha moment, or even an "I knew that" confirmation, reassurance, or the simple knowledge that we aren't alone in life's journey.I hope my words do justice to those people and experiences that have shaped and blessed my life.Just saying.

Thanks to Santa's helpers, Jinglebella and her brother, Beau, all of the animals from the Portage Animal Protective League's shelter have been placed in wonderful forever homes. The animals have been so happy and have made their forever families very happy as well. Missing their friends from the shelter, though, the animals learn how to use a magical device called a computer to connect to one another. While chatting with one another, they learn that they have been placed in homes that, at first, seem to have very different cultures and beliefs. After listening to one another, they, instead, learn how very alike their forever families are to one another. Is this all in Santa's plan? Did Jinglebella and Beau know about this all along? The animals from the shelter know they are part of Santa's elite team and that they are responsible for bringing joy to their new families. Are they also responsible for teaching humans how to get along and live in peace and harmony?
The first few months of 2020 consisted of a wild ride for most of the world. The spread of the coronavirus, resulting in a pandemic, the subsequent sheltering-in-place orders, and all that followed from economic collapse to violence and unrest are the backdrop of this story. Sheltering in Place exposes that wedge of history parallel with the more personal events going on in Dora Maxwell's life. Life in Maine, it seems, has made a sharp left turn, leaving Dora, if not stunned, at least dismayed. The imploding of the economy is the perfect symbol of the rapid disintegration of life as she knew it. The death of her husband and estrangement from her son are only the beginning. When Dora stumbles onto some bizarre happenings going on under her nose right next door, a mysterious stranger arrives on the scene to help. Jake is a drifter who has luckily wandered into the right place at the right time. When Dora witnesses her next-door neighbor's assault, the action really takes off, but it is the misunderstandings and misperceptions along the way that bring the thrills, chills, and plot twists. Surprises are the order of the day. Be aware that this is Book 1 in a series. There is more excitement to come!
The title of my book, Rhythm of Life, sums up what life has been like for me, a series of ups and downs, much like that of a roller coaster ride. I knew when I began writing the book how the book would end; however, the process of writing the book was altogether different because I wasn't sure what roads I would be traveling to get to the end of the book, hence the book title, Rhythm of Life.
This book reflects on the real-life memories of an adolescent boy who had a learning disability and the academic struggles he experienced in high school as well as the teacher who befriended him and helped him overcome such a limitation, thereby changing the adolescent's life for the better in many ways.
