Carried is a true crime story of a divorced mother's fight to save herself and her three children from a knife-wielding fifteen-year-old intruder in her home, and her battle in the courtroom to keep their attacker from terrorizing her family again. Carried is true and fully and completely describes a mother's worst nightmare and the many blessings that followed the horrible attack on April 18, 1996. It is a reflection of the trauma, treatment, recovery, courtroom trial, verdict, and sentencing and the fear, pain, and anger each ordeal evoked. The compelling, and at times riveting, account of the attack, the courtroom drama, and the recovery process is an inspiration to all those who have been victimized. For those who have been fortunate enough not to have experienced such horrors in their own lives, Carried accurately and realistically captures the thoughts and feelings of a victim of a violent crime and outlines the steps necessary to cope and ultimately survive such an ordeal.

I was in my thirties when I attended nursing school, and I took the year-long crash course to get it over with as a LPN (licensed practical nurse). I was blessed to be able to cram the crash course in a year. I was particularly nervous when I had to take the state board exam to determine my becoming a nurse. After studying so hard for a complete year, I wasn't sure if I would pass the state board exam. But I did pass the test, and I was so thankful to Jesus for this, for allowing me to pass the first time I took the exam. Prior to me going to nursing school and during nursing school, people and some family members were telling me that studying to be a nurse was not going to be easy and that it was going to be hard. There were even statements that I wouldn't graduate, also gossip that I would drop out. I stayed away from those type of people with negativity and waiting for my failure. Readers, remember, the only thing that beats a failure is a trier, and as long as one tries, then you're not a failure because at least you tried. After retiring as a nurse, an 8-mm aneurysm was discovered in my brain. I died during brain surgery, and now I know there is life after death. Even though I wanted to stay in the arms of God and not return to my body, He sent me back anyway 'cause it wasn't my time yet. I will never forget the wonderful experience being with the Lord. That's why I wanted to stay because of the joy and happiness. I titled this book The Silent Patient 'cause when my spirit returned back into my body-I was in a coma for a week-I was told that I couldn't speak, but I could hear my visitors and could hear the health care staff. I just couldn't speak or respond. I had to fight all my life, and now I had to fight to come out of a coma. I've been diagnosed with another brain aneurysm, but life goes on and live it to its fullest. Addendum to The Silent Patient: Roger and I didn't sleep in the same bedroom the last two years of our marriage, which was my decision because he disgusted me. I had grown to despise him. I discovered, as years passed, that he had been doing illicit drugs since he was twelve years old. He would sneak and wear my panties and negligees, and I asked him for a divorce. He told me he would never divorce me, and if I tried to divorce him that he would make my life a living hell, and he smirked and said, "e;You know what I am capable of doing."e; He said he would ruin me in every way that he could dream of. He told me he planned to kill his father for insurance but decided not to go through it. He also told me that he kept trying to get his ex-wife to go to the mountains so he could push her over a cliff and kill her. I did not know how to swim, and he kept insisting that we go see the ocean. Well, I wasn't going to do that based on what he had told me. It was all about money with him no matter what he had to do to get it. Knowing his murderous intentions, he was capable of anything. I know he drugged me sometimes because I have flashbacks of some things. He was a drug addict; whether it would be prescription drugs or illicit drugs, he would do it. He always became violent when he was on drugs. I receive a lump sum of award money, and since I couldn't count or do a lot of things after brain surgery, he went through my money like water. I had no idea he was doing this. He was plotting since the day we met. I can see that now. Most of my money went on his drugs and splurging all his desires. He was not going to let go of me. He only wanted to live off me 'cause he was too lazy to work. I overheard him on the phone one day, saying he was not going to work anymore. He didn't realize that some of my memory was coming back to me. One day, when I came home, he wouldn't let me in the house 'cause he didn't want me to see him in women's clothing and makeup. When I pushed the door open with my key, he slammed the door on my hand, and I called the police. He was arrested, and I filed for divorce right away with a restraining order. I didn't care what threats he was going to do although I knew he would stalk me, which he did. I just went for the divorce and got it. That was a happy day for me.

Traveling overland through South and East Africa, I had to cross the Zambezi River three times in 1972. Starting in Sioux City, Iowa, it takes two and a half years traveling through fourteen countries on three continents. What will become my plan to travel to California begins in Ely, Nevada. Wanting to be original, I will head east. My circuitous route will take me rafting the Colorado River, betting all my savings on one spin of the roulette wheel in the Caribbean, and a van and Mediterranean villa in Europe, including a shuttle service between Paris and Amsterdam. In the Caribbean again, I restore and create a private nightclub in Historic Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Next, it's on to traveling and bartending in South Africa. From there, I travel overland through East Africa toward the coast to catch a ship to India. This requires crossing the monsoon swollen Zambezi River multiple times. I have to survive: military convoys, armed guerillas, mined roads, landslides, dead ends, cave-ins, crocodiles, mosquitoes, and a train wreck; and experience Eden along the way. My voyage begins on the moon.
There are thousands of children in East Africa orphaned from either malaria or HIV and thus left to deal with the improbabilities of a disinterested world. This is their story told through the eyes of three little girls-Moja, Mbili, and Tatu-who bravely, hilariously, and often cluelessly face life on the Serengeti. Their struggle is intertwined with a mysterious fourteen-year-old girl named Nne, who, like hundreds of girls in Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya, "e;leak"e; from a vaginal fistula. Together, the girls must travel to Addis Ababa so that Nne may undergo a life-changing surgical procedure. Come with us as we join the journey of these courageous little vagabonds across the plains of Africa from one Masai village to another, from one harrowing escape to another, all within the context of a true-to-life story never before told.

An angel saves the life of a man who was trapped in darkness and a depression so deep that he cried for death to come, but death would not come.
A.S.K. is an exposition of Matthew 7:7. It is intended to bring a renewed interest in the "e;atomic power"e; of prayer. Jeremiah said, "e;Call unto me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which thou knowest not."e;
His mother's neck broke while he vaguely watched . . . The ocean that was once a blanket for the village, smothered the village and killed her sister . . . And both wind up in a school that seemingly has the motto "e;From savage to civilized."e;HotahOften getting pneumonias and being conceived by rape, Hotah lived in a Hopi village with his great-grandmother deep in her nineties but said, "e;The hell with a walking stick."e; His whole life, he had seen war sprout, such as witnessing his grandmother's brutal death and severed body parts thrown to the railroad. But most of that had not given him troubled thoughts. It was mostly his mother's hanging, perhaps, because he had to help carry her dead body back home. As an eighty-one-year-old man, Hotah recaptures his time at both home and the St. Mary's Indian Mission School he was sent to shortly after his mother's dismiss. Traumatized at the school, his memories play to him over and over again while meeting his first crush and someone he shares an unlikely bond with. KaiKai was the only Hawaiian at the Indian Mission School, as there were no records of Hawaiian children being sent to these schools. Kai was taken with a few other villagers to a refugee camp after the tsunami but very faintly remembered how she arrived at the school. Orphaned at birth, Kai was raised by her much-older sister Haunani but lost Haunani to the storm. As a woman, she speaks of her memories at home and the mission school, which involved meeting a person whose face she never forgot.
Spiritual Man: Natural Woman is an empowerment and relationship-building Bible study written to reveal and remind young, middle-aged, and mature women of faith that we do not have to ask for liberation or equality because we already possess it. The key to experiencing the joy of womanhood lies in our individual and collective abilities to learn what acceptable and unacceptable relationships with each other and the men in our lives look like from the women of the Bible. Spiritual Man: Natural Woman brings attention to the fact that as women, we have the same responsibility as men to learn to worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth. Spiritual Man: Natural Woman also holds us accountable for learning and evolving into the specially designed help meet (daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, mother, wife, and friend) our sons, brothers, uncles, nephews, cousins, fathers, husbands, and friends can share with, learn from, and be willing to protect, support, and grow with. As women of faith, we must be mindful of how we respect one another as we move forward in our efforts to be respected by men. Spiritual Man: Natural Woman is not an exhaustive listing of all the Scriptures that pertain to womanhood. Instead, Spiritual Man: Natural Woman was written to elaborate on how important we are to the Most High. Spiritual Man: Natural Woman was written to prove we are not an "e;after the fact"e; creation. Spiritual Man: Natural Woman was written to remind us that we were given authority over land, sea, and air, just like man, and that we have a responsibility to work harmoniously with one another and with man. Spiritual Man: Natural Woman was written to remind us that we will be held accountable for the way we have chosen to live our lives, for we too shall stand before the Judgment seat, and I am one woman who definitely wants to hear Him say, "e;Well done, my good and faithful servant!"e;
This eclectic collection of poems ranges from the romantic (The Affair) to the frightening (The Storm) and is not without social commentary (Strings Attached). Intensely-descriptive language and evocative imagery transport the reader to faraway lands. Reminiscent of Arthur Rimbaud's technique, a colorful palette is used to create vibrant scenes which delight the mind's eye. Nature is a dominate theme throughout, with a focus on the seasons. In fact, All the World Was Still was composed on a ski lift in the dead of winter. Finally, for those with a scientific inclination, Astrophysics: The Journey and Non Sequitur: Seven Vignettes, with their references to astronomy and physics, do not disappoint.
Anita has found it to have been a pleasurable experience to have written this book. It is her desire that all persons who read it would gather strength through the testimonies in the series of short stories that will make you aware of the spiritual and human existence on earth as it is in heaven. Fact or fiction, you decide. Her hope is that after reading this book, curiosity is raised in all persons, so much so that with or without religious beliefs, all will diligently seek to establish a personal relationship through prayer with God, the Father, who is the creator of all in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Part epistolary novel laced with flights of magic realism escapist fantasy, part bellettrist polemic debating a shopping list of culture war topics, Last Refuge of a Scoundrel is an unusual, multifaceted and densely textured book meant to linger on your palate long after you put it down. Much of the action revolves around a bitter, protracted homeowners association dispute in north San Diego County, alternately, hilarious and enraging. It's a novel of ideas, ever strumming the "e;as above, so below"e; riff and its obverse, as well as the never-tiring theme of the individual against the collective, and a less cartoonish construction of the meaning of patriotism. Will the reader be surprised by how and where the protagonist at last finds his refuge?
Maggie never had a luck with men until she saw, at the club, the most handsome man ever. And the sparks flew . . .
The majority of people today avoid the book of Revelation, saying it is hard if not impossible to understand. We might ask if this is the case, why would a God who has revealed Himself to man and wants us to understand His ways, allow such a book to have been written and preserved through the ages? It is true that Revelation is a difficult book and takes effort to understand, but it is also true that it is understandable to those who make an effort. To those who will make an effort, God even pronounces a blessing. Hopefully this book will help many to better understand this final book and capstone of God's cannon of His revealed truth for us. It is the goal of this writing to present an account true to scripture that is understandable to the lay reader.
This book is a culmination of life, in prose, in America as a professional black woman. Unabridged in its recounts of racism, culture, and bigotry in education, society and opportunity. It is a timely reminder of what happens when race relations go unattended and undermined in America.
These poetic stories will find the path to your deepest thoughts. There is history, tragedy, lost love, and a tear from God's eye. So allow yourself to capture every moment as you travel through the pages. "e;Ron and Nicki's Last Dance"e; is the OJ Simpson story in poetic form.
I have never witnessed any coverage that accurately reflects what life is like for those employed in the industry. There is a lot of media hype, but that does not reflect the actual team members' daily routine or what they give up in life to provide this entertainment to the world. There is a lot of stress, and some danger, which is managed, but it takes a personal toll. The stress has to be relieved in some way. You don't just work with your coworkers; you live with them, all over the world. This book reflects one life of a thousand, on one of thirty teams in the sport.

When some of us think of Christmas, we think of certain symbols. Among the symbols that come to mind are Christmas trees, Santa Claus, mistletoe, and turkey. This particular story introduces us to a different kind of Christmas symbol. This special symbol is a fish, and this story is about some special qualities it seems to have. This fish, which seems to arrive at Christmastime, unites a group of very good and giving people and creates a community of love and laughter. It also brings about a special togetherness, which is typical of what the yuletide season is about. The fish seems to carry with it a message that says, "e;Let's never forget how good Christmas feels . . . "e;The characters in the story represent a special kind of unselfishness and expect nothing in return. Their story serves to tell us that we are often unaware of how little it takes to be kind and to give willingly. It reminds us of how good it feels to give. We are shown the worth and warmth of being surrounded by good friends, good people combined with acts of kindness. Though fictional, with a hint of a "e;mythical legend,"e; it is a reminder that ever so often, we forget about how much goodness is in all of us. Sometimes it takes a most unusual source, like a fish, to remind us that the special gifts we gain from giving to others are far more valuable than beautifully wrapped boxes under a tree. We must live with caring and sharing in our hearts each and every day. Maybe after reading this story, you will think about Christmas whenever you see a fish and wonder if it is the special fish that brought about a lot of miracles during the most joyous holiday season of all! Maybe some of you may even become believers of the legacy of the Christmas fish and look out of your windows on Christmas Eve night to see if the group is still traveling to share the fish with those willing to make the journey to give a share of the real spirit of Christmas to everybody!
Sometimes we choose to forget. Other times, we have the misfortune of carrying and will never forget. As we travel through the journey of life, regardless of the road we're on, each step is a lesson learned and with the knowledge obtained, we are molded into the person shaped by circumstance. Untrue Ties is the real life events of a woman who began her journey with love and trust, only to be scorned and broken by the people she adored and called family. In her darkest hours she found the strength to fight and harness the power she carried inside all along, which eventually set her free. Her story will move you to laughter, sorrow, anger, joy and peace but more than anything else, it will inspire you to know and develop your worth and stand firm in it.
This is the story of an orphan named Jake who finds himself in a hot-air balloon with his friend, Milton the Mouse. The wind carries them through many adventures, some very amusing and others quite dangerous. The adventures of Jake and Milton originated as bedtime stories, which the author told his son. This book combines the adventures and were finally written down as advised by his son Miles. The illustrations were all done by the author's son, Miles Huffman. The author hopes the stories will be passed on to Miles's children one day.
Encompassing themes of grief, loss, betrayal, coming of age, endurance, and love (in its various forms), Lives of the Apostles examines the momentary circumstances of everyday people as they try to connect with life in the modern age. With a stylistic approach nearer John Prine than John Donne, the author uses colloquial speech, dialect, storytelling, and humor to consider humankind's continuous pilgrimage into self and the spirit. Of the two years he spent laid up, off and on, with an autoimmune disease, the author says, "e;It was no damn fun. I don't mind not working, but I prefer it on my own terms - not lying in bed sipping protein shakes and peeling skin. Eventually, I just started listening to music around the clock until I started seeing the power lines outside my bedroom window as guitar strings being plucked by God. This was during November, I think, the month of hard winds pounding the walls. One morning, I was listening to Son House sing "e;John the Revelator."e; Great song. Anyway, when he mentions the apostles, he comes down hard on the -st, actually enunciates it so it sounds like he's saying apostas. I remember hearing that as a kid, that same pronunciation, which got me to thinking about all these different voices I'd heard throughout my life . . . which in turn started all these different voices telling stories in my head. E. L. Doctorow says writing is basically a "e;socially acceptable form of schizophrenia."e; I hope he's right. About the acceptable part, I mean."e;
Francheska, Zoe, Sadie, and Emma were sure they would have another uneventful summer at Superior Lake; they had been spending summers at their lake houses, and it had always been uneventful. Francheska, Zoe, Sadie, and Emma were very glad that they had each other to hang with. Emma and Zoe's father was a professor of geology at the University of Michigan, and he had gotten a Professor Coolage notes on how he believes that Porcupine Mountain is a dormant volcano and when it erupts, it will trigger earthquakes, which will trigger the Keweenaw fault, which runs along the bottom of Michigan, and if triggered would shove Lower Michigan into Upper Michigan, and Michigan will become an island. Their dad, along with Francheska and Sadie's, studied the mountain and checked for any changes. Francheska, Sadie, Emma, and Zoe decided to try out this new path that had been built the last year. Halfway up the mountain, they stopped at the picnic area and started having lunch when these two girls walked up to them and introduced themselves to Francheska, Sadie, Emma, and Zoe,Ashlynn and Aubrey told Francheska, Sadie, Emma, and Zoe that their parents came to Porcupine Mountain; their parents wanted to bring them and their annoying little brother, Zachery, to the mountain to get away from the distraction of the big city and spend some quality family time. Francheska saw a path from the path that had just been made. The girls decided to take it to see where it led. The girls met a hairy boy their age named Zeek. A large black cloud showed up, and lightning hit the ground; a bear came out of the woods ready to attack them. Zeek had a flasher and flashed the bear, and the bear ran away screaming. Zeek took the girls to his house, more like a mansion, once belonging to a Professor Coolage, who left the home to the Thomlanes. Zeek's mother and father were nervous at first to have the girls at their home but ended up enjoying them. The girls got trapped up the mountain for three weeks because of fires and storms. Emma and Zeek really liked each other. The events that happened changed the girls' lives, as well as Michigan, forever.

My promise to "e;Jesus"e; and understanding my message. I realize the Lord has allowed me to experience, endure and witness a great deal by protecting me all these years. My message is to enlighten society by using my past as an example of belief, faith and wisdom. Greatness of good is a gift from God. Evil is a powerful force of nature. Society will use the phrase, "e;It's human nature"e; as an excuse for any wrong doings towards anyone who has an identity crisis. But, is it human nature or just an evil act of malice behavior depending on the person? My opinion is goodness in people hearts are being de-sanitized by the strength of evil only if allowed. Be "e;real"e; to yourself by being yourself. Having faith will carry you through the challenges of life. Remember, "e;An anger mind is the devil's workshop"e;. I always say, "e;Great people who represent good may pay the ultimate price on earth. But, the Lord's reward is life everlasting spirit in heaven"e;.
