In February 1992 Todd and Coby Gent went to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, so Coby could be evaluated for, and hopefully have, a double-lung transplant. Transplants were a new way to prolong the lives of cystic fibrosis patients, and this major surgery was Coby's only hope for living beyond his twelve years.Todd, Coby's dad, kept a journal from day one of the Gent family's journey from borrowed lungs to new life. The journals include other patients from all over the country awaiting transplants. Coby, at twelve, was the youngest among others in their twenties, thirties, and forties. Tricia and Casey, Todd's wife and daughter, respectively, remained in their hometown of Wylie, Texas, and traveled back and forth to North Carolina during the transplant process.Todd Gent had not read these journals since he wrote them in 1992, but his daughter brought them out in order to publish them by the thirtieth anniversary of Coby's double-lung transplant. The journals prove that Coby made it count.

In today's world, Dan and Marylou are what the gym rats would term old school. They hold friendships sacred. This time their friendship with Paul DeLuca could cost them everything, even their lives.

There Is No Music is based on incidents that happened in life to people that were struggling to live in a place in time where you could not hear joy, peace, security, love, trust, patience, and loyalty. There is no music when a child is abused or misused by an adult. There is no music when you just want your civil rights, but you are punished because you want equal rights, and you have to leave where you live and have no place to go.There is no music when you are abused by people who see you every day and say they love you but do not have the heart to love and keep you safe. There is no music when we allow Satan to captivate our lives because of our selfishness.

She looked at me shocked, mouth wide open, and eyes wet from the tears that had just fallen from the telling of my story. "e;What do you mean you would not change anything? The things that happened are so horrible!"e; My reply, just like all the other times I have been asked this question, is always the same. "e;No, I would not change any of it. I love who I am today. I would not be me if I had not endured everything throughout the years."e;This life has not been an easy one. I honestly don't think life is supposed to be easy, as we are all here trying to learn new things once forgotten from our past lives. I have met many people in my life, and the one thing most of us have in common is the struggle. The struggle to have and be what we are told to be. The struggle from paycheck to paycheck, the struggle in relationships, the struggle in careers, and the struggle to love ourselves. We all struggle with something. My hope is to give each of you some insight on how I have survived my struggle. How to keep moving forward during the struggle, and how to be happy despite it all. I am not perfect by any means, but I have heard this conversation too many times. The intention is to help those in need. It's not meant to hurt or make anyone feel sorry for me. I am one of the strongest people I know, and I don't need pity. I need to help those who have felt trapped or wanted it to all be over and have had nowhere to turn. I want to give hope to those that feel there is none left.Finding the courage to move forward is hard, but I have found it in every event that has happened because I am still here, still spreading love and knowledge the best I know howAs I look back on the things I have endured in my life, I know I have been blessed even through the heartache and pain. Even through the desperate times where I thought life was never going to get better. I have been blessed beyond my wildest dreams and also tested to the same degree.

I decided to call the book Lito Wuz Here and use a picture of the neighborhood I grew up in (Georgetown South) because I want to be able to inspire young kids who grew up in that neighborhood or in a similar one. Lito is my childhood nickname; my siblings, along with close family and friends, still call me that. When I was growing up in the South (Georgetown South), there were times when I felt trapped and thought to myself that I would never make anything of myself in life. I look back now and realize the drugs and alcohol had a heavy influence on the mindset that I had at that age. I am now thirty-one years old and have been completely sober since Christmas of 2019. Many of my poems were written while hospitalized in many different psych wards and throughout many sleepless nights. It makes me realize that there is a purpose, even for our hardships in life. My goal is to reach out to anyone that is willing to hear and make them realize there is always hope, no matter where you come from. That hope may just not come from a direction you initially thought. I never thought nor had the goal of becoming a published author or poet. I wrote my first poem in April 15, 2020, and have been writing them ever since. Though I do not follow a certain poetic format, I believe I've meshed my love for hip-hop and my fondness for poetry and developed my own style, which is the way I like to write. My poetry book, Lito Wuz Here, was written with the hopes of inspiring a younger generation.
This is the story of five talking dogs, all deceased. The story deals with how these five canines raise hell while they are alive by stealing food, wrecking stuff, chasing other animals, and skinny-dipping and then pulling the same shenanigans after they die. Four of the five dogs were abused by humans when they were alive. Now that they are dead, the tides have changed. The dogs are telling the humans what to do. In hell, the dogs become correction officers over the humans. In hell, the dogs come face-to-face with those humans who abused them. It's bad enough for the humans to be hell's prisoners; it's much worse with the dogs being the prison wardens. In heaven, the Almighty assigns the dogs tasks to carry out on earth. They accomplish their tasks without regard to pride, ego, vanity, anger, prejudice, or greed. The dogs can't be bought or conned by any of the humans they meet during their assignments. They carry out their assignments with total objectivity. The dogs will do anything that the Almighty tells them to do. They know that, during and after their assignments, there are banquets for pigging out, items to wreck, critters to chase, and heated swimming pools. Having immortal bodies, the thrill of being injured, killed, or captured and executed is not there anymore; however, the Almighty sometimes improvises for them. The main characters are five dogs: Runner, a greyhound, the philosopher; Danny, a greyhound, the spiritual leader; Vinney, a whippet, a risk-taking lunatic; Doggie, a treeing walker coonhound and cocker spaniel mix that will chase anything; and Peanut Butter, a puggle, who is naive with four months of college. This is a sequel to The Human World from a Canine Point of View.
He often appeared amusing to family and friends alike. Daddy was seen as a very cool guy by many people. Of course, I looked up to him. However, secretly, I didn't expect Daddy to be around for very long. As I continued to get to know more and more of Daddy, this very troubled and dark side of him began to emerge. I hadn't yet realized that we're all very complicated and complex beings. Thus, Daddy became frightful to himself, as well as to me. Something about his behaviors became off-kilter.
In Life Is Not a Dress Rehearsal, the author takes the reader along a journey filled with love, laughter, hope, and courage. Through detailed storytelling, the author takes the reader along the path of how she came to discover her empathic abilities as a teacher during her time in the K-12 and preschool classrooms. Most of the stories will confirm what you may have suspected about what most teachers go through to an extent, but this story is very unique in that these stories occurred during the author's first two years of teaching. Granted, most people would have given up after the first year, but the author realized that there had to be a deeper meaning for all of the traumatic and head-turning things encountered. During this journey, she is able to relate her experiences in trying to work with both children and adults who have their own set of issues while trying to remain grounded and self-aware and maintaining a healthy learning environment for her students. If you like a story about overcoming obstacles and challenges, this book is for you. If you struggle with maintaining healthy workplace boundaries with coworkers or others in the workplace, you will enjoy reading about the author's trials and tribulations as a newly recruited teacher fresh out of college. If you have ever felt like there was something more that you should be doing in your life and your career, this book will be an entertaining and page-turning read. It is the author's hope that you will be able to apply some of the knowledge gained from her experiences of trial and error to avoid many of the workplace pitfalls that come with a toxic work or social environment.Through the experiences shared throughout this book, the author was essentially forced to come to terms with her own empathy for others, all while navigating within a toxic work environment. It is the author's sincerest hope that all readers-whether empaths, highly sensitive persons, or non-empathic-be able to find their own inner voice while navigating challenging or toxic work environments, social groups, or awkward situations in a more empathic and humane way. As you read this memoir, you should ask yourself, "e;How would I react or respond in a challenging situation?"e; or "e;How can I become a more empathic or understanding person while maintaining healthy boundaries?"e; Through the sharing of these various experiences, the author hopes to help all readers, empaths and non-empaths alike, to find their own inner strength to overcome negative situations in work, school, and in general.
In life, we face certain circumstances that can be so overwhelming there seems to be no hope. We all may face betrayal even by our own blood, such as the lack of love and validation on this earth, which can put us in a dark place. But with Christ in our hearts, we find hope that no matter what we go through, we can do all things through him. The poems included in this book are filled with the hope we find in Jesus Christ. The author describes how God took her out of two very abusive relationships-an abusive relationship with her mother and an abusive marriage. Some of the poems just express a romantic side, like her conversations with the Lord. God's love can transform us in a way that we could never imagine. Through Jesus Christ, we find who lives within us and the person whom God created us to be. She hopes that by reading this, you, too, can find that hidden treasure God put inside of you.The cover and images of this work was painted by the artist:Maribel JuarezIG: mari.bellarte012mmamcd4@yahoo.comLove never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.-1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT)
