    The book Ken's Shorts is both entertaining and edifying as it is a series of short stories and documentaries-and perhaps a tad irreverent, judging by its title and cover design-that seems to strike a perfect balance between funny and entertaining with educational.

    Imagine that your worst nightmare has come true, when fantasy and reality collide. The moment you finally realize that you have a chronic and, more often, fatal disease that attacks your mind, and no one truly cares. Words without actions are simply just words. All because a diagnosis of any metal illness, either mild or severe, is still considered in today's society to be a "e;dirty secret best kept locked in a box buried in a dark place,"e; you find yourself wondering what crime against humanity had you committed that you contracted a disease that will ultimately cost you everything and everyone?The truth you find is that you did not make a choice to get it, that you are not a bad person, and that it simply chose you! Quickly you come to the devastating realization that the ones you loved and trusted the most and that you thought would stand by you, comfort you, and see you through your battles with any illness start dropping like flies one by one until they are all gone. The best part is that on their way out of your life, most of them stab you in the back or directly in your face, betray you, and slander your name and credibility, leaving you with the feeling of worthlessness that morphs into self-medicating that then turns into full-blown addiction, which gives those same people even more ammunition to be used against you and to justify why you are no longer worthy or allowed to be a part of basic family living. No more happy holidays, no more phone calls, no more visits, you have now just become invisible, like your life never even existed. Only you have photographs to prove different. It is now only you, your disease ("e;The Monster"e; inside your mind), and the dark place you hide; so that you no longer have to see or hear your own internal death and crucifixion from the ones that said they loved you the most. Does justice ever prevail? Is there a happily ever after at the end of the rainbow? Or is suicide really the only answer to end our pain and suffering from not being allowed to be a part of the elite, "e;normal society"e;?

    Treasures of Darkness is the book of poems about reality of living and life and God's promise as real as it gets. Not realities God says maybe to Muslims, not now to Buddhists, or no to atheists. Not realities he says yes to sometimes, most times, or once in a while. This book of poems is about human experience, in living all the times. Are there such realities? You bet there are. Storm of life is no respecter of person. Man, woman, transgender, gay, lesbian, rich, poor, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, atheists, felons, saints, or heroes, every person faces some unexpected changes, heartbreak, or affliction at some point in their lives. I know how hard it is for so many to face change in life, especially sudden or unexpected storm. But I assure you, this book of poems is not just a spiritual or inspirational book. This is about the human experience where "e;treasure in the darkness"e; is available and as real as it gets to everyone-riches in secret place. In the dark, the only thing you can see is light. This is reality, not perception. This book of poems is written to help put things, many times, things you already know in perspective, and show us ways how to cope with self, others, and adversities better by embracing the human experience in every situation. My sincere hope to every reader of Treasure of Darkness is that you will discover, as a mature person, you are not the ones to have answer to everything, but the ones who enter into every situation with purpose. And if you choose to embrace the human experience, discover the purpose and follow the light (the Word), you surely will find your riches hidden in secret place, even in the most despised place, indeed.

    If you were fortunate enough to view the movie Erin Brockovich, then reading Profit...at What Cost? will bring back memories of environmental wrongdoings. Those who read the first outline of this novel said it should be made into a movie, as it's even more riveting and eye-opening!Are you paying attention, Hollywood?Follow an environmental reporter and her sidekick photographer as they search for the truth in two highly emotional yet mysterious environmental situations: above-normal births of deformed children in a small town in West Virginia and what finally leads to the death of thousands when an unknown bacterium is unleashed in the Midwest. And since the author actually wrote the terms and conditions, awarded and oversaw the progress of a similar contract, as described herein for the cleansing of contaminated soils at a USAF facility (one that could have unleashed an unknown bacterium into the wild), only its termination after its first test results became known, may have saved the earth from similar disastrous events, as described in this novel!DO NOT MISS READING THIS NOVEL!

    Many methods for teaching people to read exist today. Reading mastery on the whole is made of many segments summed together. Reading programs have taken a fraction out of order, attempting to teach an end segment at the beginning. Some segments are left out entirely. This will frustrate a new reader. Sounding out letters is a great beginning and should not be omitted. But there is also a vital fraction of reading wholeness that should immediately follow sounding out, which shows the resemblance of rhyming and patterns in the smallest portions of words. These two, sounding out and identifying patterns, are most important to the mastery of reading. Sounding out makes accomplished goals stick in the mind. Showing small patterns in repetition through fun enhances faster learning. The title for this book, Reading Mastery Prescription, came about while I was pondering the book's utility for those who would teach reading. I visualized the analogy of someone who is illiterate meeting with a reading teacher just as a sick person must go to the doctor, seeking a cure for an illness. The doctor will write a prescription and discuss other things that can be done to assist with optimum health. The medication must be taken in the exact dose and method as prescribed, over a period of time, until the illness is conquered. The reading teacher and aspiring teachers can prescribe these easy lessons and use this straightforward method of reading instruction to cure a person's illiteracy. The lessons should be followed exactly, without skipping a dose, and in the order set out until illiteracy is conquered. Whether the student is young, middle-aged, or elderly, if the teacher prescribes this reading method and the student applies it, reading will produce its own joys and great satisfaction.

    This book was written for the sole purpose of helping others avoid the many pitfalls of choosing a roommate. Our intent and feelings are generally good when we decide to take on a roommate. All the variances of why we are making this decision differ from one person to the next. It could help you financially, or just as well help a friend, acquaintance, or family member in need. There are more of us than you realize that needs a constant companion, and does not like to be alone. For most of files decisions, there is usually a price to pay. Some prices are great and works out for you, and some not so much. The not so much are the ones we tremendously pay for, and that's where my book comes in. There are so many ways to help others. Giving money, clothing, volunteering, donating food, visiting hospitals, and the list goes on. My way is to give strong advice on what and what not to do in life and the decisions we make. Put into focus that your current roommate just packed up and left, said, "e;I am moving back home."e; You're stuck in a twelve-month lease with eight months remaining. One job, school supplies, car, and insurance payments, groceries, utilities, and now the full amount of rent is on you. You ask around, no luck. You post sticky notes on the college boards as well as placing ads online. Then bingo, you get a response. They said they have a full-time job, are clean, father is a police officer, mom is a school teacher, and you say, "e;Great, my problem is solved."e; They give you the first month's rent and move in. You are quiet, an introvert, reserved, respectable, and tidy. The next month, the place starts to build up trash inside, more traffic in and out of the residence, personal items start missing, more and more loud music, you come home and someone is laying in your bed. You have a talk with your roommate about all the issues at hand, but they have a right to do as they please because it's fifty-fifty, so what do you do? It's unfortunate, but some are now deceased from not taking the wise first step and just went with the "e;I-need-it-now"e; mentality. There are certain things in life that are just unavoidable, but taking a step in the right direction from the start would be smart and wise.

    A question about your school days, elementary, high school, and college: Good times? Bad times? A mix of both?Small schools? Large schools? Did size matter? Were some years more enjoyable, more memorable than others?Your teachers? How many did you have? Do you remember their names? Did you have a favorite? What made your favorite(s) special?"e;Teach Me Something, Mister"e; is a follow-up to "e;Throw Me Something, Mister"e; but quite different. "e;Throw Me..."e; is fiction. "e;Teach Me..."e; is real! The stories were sent to the author from teachers and friends recalling their school life. They are mostly fun; regret and sadness in a few. It's not all good, no matter how much we would like it to be. The stories are about teachers, students and school secretaries, cooks and custodians, parents and principals. They will remind you of your school days, and hopefully prompt a few thanksgivings. The author welcomes your shared stories and feedback. Maybe you should write your own school stories, for your family to remember and cherish?The young mother asked her five-year-old "e;What did you learn in school today?"e; The kid replied, "e;I guess not enough. Miss Banks said she'd see me again tomorrow."e;
