Die Weihnachtsvorlesung gehört zu den fest etablierten Veranstaltungen der Pädagogischen Hochschule Freiburg. Jedes Jahr referieren Wissenschaftler*innen aus der Perspektive ihrer jeweiligen Disziplin zum Thema ¿Weihnachten". Der vorliegende Band dokumentiert eine Reihe dieser interdisziplinären Weihnachtsvorlesungen, präsentiert neue Beiträge und bildet so die gesellschaftlich-kulturelle Präsenz und Popularität des Weihnachtsfestes ab. The main topic that connects in this book the six studies from various scientific fields is the notion of identity. The monograph can be divided into three parts: identity and the contemporary world, identity and culture, and identity in literature and translation.

Der Band präsentiert die Gesamtergebnisse des Wuppertaler DFG-Forschungsprojekts zu sprachlicher Höflichkeit bei Jugendlichen an der Schnittstelle von linguistischer Höflichkeits- und Jugendsprachforschung. Anhand von Tonaufzeichnungen in Unterrichts- und Pausensituationen und dem Einsatz von Fragebögen bei 1200 Jugendlichen und 170 Lehrkräften können ausgewählte Gebrauchs- und Verständnisweisen sprachlicher Höflichkeit und Unhöflichkeit bei Jugendlichen im Schulalter analysiert werden. Das Buch liefert insbesondere neue Erkenntnisse über Erscheinungsweisen jugendtypischer Höflichkeit und über soziolinguistische Differenzen zwischen Geschlechtern, Altersstufen und Schultypen sowie Adressatendifferenzierungen.

Das Thema des Sammelbandes ist die Fremdsprachenpragmatik, d.h., pragmatische Kompetenz und ihre Vermittlung im schulischen Fremdsprachenunterricht. In zehn Beitragen wird die Bedeutung pragmatischer Fertigkeiten fur die kommunikative Kompetenz theoretisch und forschungsbasiert diskutiert und es werden unterrichtspraktische Vorschlage abgeleitet.

The contributions discuss new approaches from the broad field of digital humanities. Special attention is given to linguistic and pragmatic/discourse analyses of statistically significant multi-word expressions in literary texts, ways of identifying literary genres with the aid of statistical methods and corpus stylistics.

This monograph demonstrates that the book of Deuteronomy is a result of highly creative reworking of the book of Ezekiel, and the books of Joshua-Judges are a result of highly creative reworking of Deuteronomy. In both cases, the reworking consists of almost 700 strictly sequentially organized thematic, and at times also linguistic correspondences.

The book deals with manifestations and relics of magical thinking in narrative folklore of Cieszyn Silesia (Teschen Silesia, Tisinske Slezsko). The author focuses on the cognitive dimension of socially shared narratives and demonstrates how they re-produce the magical picture of the world. He redefines the cognitivist concept of categorization.
