This thesis studies the urban history of Mumbai from the perspective of popular Hindi films. The change of the name from Bombay to Mumbai in 1995 is symbolic of the transition of the colonial city from a centre of industrial capitalism to a neoliberal city, characterised by finance capital. It also signals the massive changes in the social and the political spheres of the city. Thomas Blom Hansen's Violence in Urban India starts its narrative of the city with a conversation that the author had on a suburban train, few weeks before the official rechristening. He asked an elderly gentleman about his reaction to the proposed change of the city's name from Bombay to Mumbai. While poring over an article in the English daily, Times of India, regarding the change of name of the city, the gentleman promptly answered: "its proper name is Bombay."
Before entering the world of research and evaluation, I was a Family Therapist specialising in how substance abuse affected families and parenting. My interests led me to design and facilitate a number of family substance use interventions which were both individually and group based. Each time I designed a new family substance use intervention, I became more aware that to understand which aspects of the treatment was effective and which aspects were not, it would be essential to include and implement an evaluation framework for the program. I soon recognised that my proficiency in understanding evaluation methods and their processes was insufficient and therefore would have to leave the investigation regarding the intervention's efficacy to someone else. The work involved in evaluating the interventions initially tickled my interest but soon this grew to intrigue. The more I began to understand the need for evaluation, the more I became aware of how little I knew about the subject and how important it was to provide evidence based practice to, firstly, the funding sources and secondly, and more importantly, the people who requested my knowledge and skills.
What does the future hold for Bitcoin (BTC) and the altcoins? 8 cryptocurrencies remote viewed! Inside my latest book, I give you a clear picture of where each of these coins is going.Augur (REP)Bitcoin (BTC)GXChain (GXC)Horizen (ZEN)Mimblewimblecoin (MWC)MX Token (MX)Steem (STEEM)Yearn.Finance (YFI)There has never been so much interest in cryptocurrencies shown by large institutions and governments. Cryptos are poised to take off. Blockchain technology represents a massive step up in the evolution of the Internet. For anyone interested in cryptos and the projects they represent, this is an exciting time. However, those who have just started their crypto journey can find the sheer number of coins and tokens to be overwhelming. There is one information source that stands out from the crowd. It is called remote viewing. Yet, but for its use by an informed few, remote viewing is barely known and rarely employed as a knowledge discovery tool! If you are interested in cryptos, but you find yourself overwhelmed by the number and variety of coins and tokens, this series is a good place to begin. The Cryptocurrency Remote Viewed series is not only a resource for remote viewers who want to compare their results. What remote viewer doesn't want to do that? It is intended also for those readers interested in learning more about remote viewing or cryptocurrency. For those interested primarily in the cryptos, I reveal which coins and tokens are worthy of consideration and which should be avoided. My raw remote viewing data reveals the future success or failure of the crypto targets. All the cryptos I examine are pulled from a blind target pool I put together in late October 2020 from the top 190 as ranked by market cap.Remote viewing is a learned skill based on a strict protocol that harnesses a fundamental human ability. We have to different degrees an innate ESP ability we sometimes think of as intuition. It is possible through training to control this ability in much the same way a martial artist trains their body to break through preconceived physical and mental barriers. Remote Viewing utilizes a disciplined approach originally developed under the auspices of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) in the 1970s. __________ *****LATEST NEWS!The Kiwi Joe Cryptocurrency Remote Viewed series is discussed on my new YT channel, along with example sessions from the books. FROM THE PURGE, A NEW BEGINNING.It's been six years since a terrifying breed of seemingly unkillable creatures emerged from the darkness to topple the unprepared governments of the world, in the process knocking mankind down the food chain.Survivors called it The Purge.A few brave souls rose from the ashes of the old world to fight back, often against overwhelming odds. Led by indomitable heroes, they risked everything to achieve a final, stunning victory over the supernatural "ghouls" in The Battle of Houston.Five years later, what remains of the ghouls have fled back into the shadows, and humanity now resides in isolated communities in relative peace. But human ambition and greed have also survived, and with no laws to stop those willing to pursue them, it's every man for himself.Keo, one of the unknown heroes of The Battle of Houston, has found serenity in a small town in Texas. But he will discover that a violent past is not so easily cast aside when a madman rises to dominate those around him, and in the process shatters Keo's new life. It's a brave new world, but monsters still exist-and thrive. And where there are evil deeds, good people must rise to stem the tide...on the Road to Babylon.
THE WORLD WAS NOT READYSix years ago, the world was plunged into darkness.Five years ago, it got a second chance. Now the fight for what's left begins...They Called It The Purge...History books call it The Purge, and it altered the course of human history. A breed of seemingly unkillable creatures that once lurked in the shadows of mankind's past finally revealed themselves. Driven by an insatiable lust for human blood, these monsters-dubbed "ghouls" by some-consumed the globe in one bloody, awful night. Their numbers growing exponentially through infection, they felled the unprepared governments of the world with hardly any resistance. In the yearlong nightmare that followed, survivors were turned into chattel for the generations of ghouls to come. Most chose to cooperate, but a brave few fought back, and thanks to their sacrifice, the ghouls were defeated and driven back into the darkness. The End was Just the Beginning...Humanity was given a second chance, but the world post-Purge will never be the same. The cities have been abandoned, technology is limited, law and order is nonexistent, and survivors live off the land in small, isolated communities in the countryside. Nightfall is no longer the harbinger of doom it once was, but the night will never be completely terror-free. Though vastly smaller in number and weaker than they've ever been, the ghoul menace lingers. But the monsters are now the hunted. Men and women who suffered unimaginable horrors under the yearlong Purge roam the land, seeking out the creatures wherever they hide. They call themselves slayers. They are skilled, dangerous, and they have scores to settle. Two Strangers on a Dangerous Road...Wash is a young slayer scouring what's left of America in search of one very specific ghoul. He will find it even if he has to brave hell itself to do so. Ana is a woman who is not what she seems-cunning, smart, and far more capable than she lets on. Forced into an alliance, the two strangers must learn to trust one another if they are to accomplish their goals-defeat the monsters, both inhuman and human, and get out alive.
In epistemology there has been a recent upsurge of interest in the so-called 'value problem'.1 The genesis of this refreshing new body of work is the apparent intuition that knowledge is valuable, indeed something especially valuable. Attention to the value of knowledge raises a two-fold problem for contemporary epistemology. First, the original Meno problem itself (in the form of a prima facie puzzle about the relative values of knowledge and true belief) remains very much alive, and second, many contemporary analyses of knowledge, driven largely by increasingly specific and detailed responses and counter-responses to the Gettier problem, can seem baroque and complex, and to fail to capture the importance of knowledge for our lives. For these reasons, the issue of the value of knowledge looms particularly large today. Regarding the first point (that the problem is alive), it certainly seems true on the face of it that knowledge is more valuable than simply having the right belief about something (say, by accident). However, accidentally true beliefs seem to do a fine job getting us what we want in many situations. While epistemologists are still for the most part convinced that lucky guesses are not knowledge, lucky guesses seem to get us all the practical benefits of knowledge. Say that I find myself in a forest and I need to eat some mushrooms to survive. In this particular forest, there are only a few mushrooms that are edible; the rest are lethally poisonous. I can have the true belief "these mushrooms are edible" in a couple of ways: as a 'merely' true belief, or as an item of knowledge. If I randomly look at the edible group of mushrooms and form the belief, then I have a merely true belief by means of a lucky guess. If I have put in the time to research the edibility of various forest mushrooms, and use this preparation to identify the edible mushrooms, then I have knowledge that these are the edible mushrooms
The mainstream Anglo-American philosophical tradition has only recently begun to break away from an unfortunate caricature of Michel Foucault's accounts of power and subject formation in which life in contemporary Western society is a state of perpetual domination from which individuals are helpless to escape. But for many Foucault scholars, this caricature is startling and even bizarre. In the first place, this pessimistic view is contradicted by Foucault's own politically engaged life. Furthermore, it seems unlikely that Foucault would dedicate such time and care to writing about domination and freedom only to declare that the former is inescapable and the latter an impossible ideal. The problem, as I see it, stems from confusion regarding Foucault's use of the terms 'power', 'domination', 'resistance', and 'freedom'. This confusion is no doubt fueled by Foucault's own lack of clear, systematic definitions of these terms. Moreover, Foucault devotes significantly more time to the discussion of domination than he does to the discussion of freedom in modern contexts. His most notable analyses of freedom focus on the ancient Greek ethics of the care of the self, on the one hand, and a criticism of the Enlightenment concept of autonomy, on the other. Readers are therefore left to speculate as to what freedom from modern forms of domination could be on Foucault's account
Before jumping into the details it is worthwhile to briefly survey the different parts of this paper and the way in which they fit together to present a coherent picture of what it means to be human living in non-modernity and the ethical implications such an understanding has. This paper focuses on the work of anthropologist and philosopher Bruno Latour and develops on his non-modern perspective of the world. From his study of the actual practices of so called moderns, Latour claims that we have really never been modern. In order to understand this claim, chapter one addresses Latour's depiction of the central features of modernity such as its dualistic foundation which holds that everything in the world can be sorted into one of two mutually exclusive and self-constituting categories: Nature or society. Ultimately, Latour contends that the actual practices of modernity not only involve the officially sanctified work of purification but also mediation. Such practices of mediation gives rise to hybrid entities that defy the modern constitution in that they bring together human and nonhuman elements, subject and object properties, in a unified phenomenon. The chapter concludes with the unraveling of modernity and how despite modern attempts to dismiss hybrids as mere intermediaries, the very success of modernity leads to its own downfall as this success is accompanied by an uncontrollable proliferation of recalcitrant hybrids that it unable sort. Chapter two then looks at Latour's non-modern response to the problems of modernity. Non-modernity can be seen as an attempt to reconcile the practices of purification which differentiate nature from culture with the practices of mediation from which hybrids arise. There are three main concepts on which non-modernity is founded: mediation, hybrids and nature-culture collectives.
This thesis explores the nature of addiction and addictive behaviour. It does so from the perspective of Classical Greek philosophy. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time that philosophy from this period of history been used to gain a comprehensive understanding of addiction and addictive behaviour.4 The aim of the thesis is threefold. Firstly, to construct a theory of addiction founded on Classical Greek philosophy. Secondly, to increase current understanding of addiction through an awareness of Classical Greek philosophy and thirdly, to encourage the study of addiction and other aspects of human behaviour from the perspective of Classical Greek philosophy.

Scrolls of a Temple Sweeper is a novel of war, lost children, dream masters, a traveling circus, a theater troupe, a shaman, and a ghostwoman, told by a temple sweeper who has not spoken in twenty-five years. This book is for anyone who has felt the pain of separation, the fear of the future, the loss of a country or a language or a loved one. It's the quantum love story of a one-eyed boy and mute girl moving through time to an island monastery of refuge-where stones have become dreams, dreams have become bones, bones have become prayers and prayers have become us.The Scrolls are replete with phantasmagorical elements in which even ghosts have flesh and blood, and being is time, where crows speak, elephants and dragons wander in and out of the telling, and the Old Story, the scrolls themselves, unfold before us. The novel welds post-modernist narrative techniques to traditional discourse-the seamless integration of rhythmical prose, lyrical poetry, and proverbial utterance is dazzling. Pathos presides, not bathos: terrible beauty is born and reborn. This astonishing and dizzyingly extensive work smashes all barriers of time and space, so that when you are done with its dark & light pages full, incidentally, of multicolored ensō (Zen circle) art works, you don't know who you are or where you have been, though its vividly realized scenes are stunningly clear. Scrolls of a Temple Sweeper is itself an extended Zen koan that plays on the flute of traditional Zen literary tropes like a virtuoso.
