This book considers the problems of network-based control and optimization. As is known, network-based control has great advantages over traditional control systems because it may lead to easy installation and maintenance, low cost, and so on. Sometimes, network-based control is also necessary in many situations. For example, multi-agents may need to communicate with each other under wireless scenarios. On the other hand, the network may lead to some imperfect factors such as samplings, delays, transmission protocols, and packet losses. These factors may degrade the system performance and even lead to the instability of the control systems.This book aims at providing a modeling framework and analysis approach for the general nonlinear networked control systems based on the hybrid framework. The proposed results deal with very general nonlinear systems and help the readers understand the principle of nonlinear network-based control and optimization.
Hermite's theorem makes it known that there are three levels of mathematical frames in which a simple addition formula is valid. They are rational, q-analogue, and elliptic-analogue. Based on the addition formula and associated mathematical structures, productive studies have been carried out in the process of q-extension of the rational (classical) formulas in enumerative combinatorics, theory of special functions, representation theory, study of integrable systems, and so on. Originating from the paper by Date, Jimbo, Kuniba, Miwa, and Okado on the exactly solvable statistical mechanics models using the theta function identities (1987), the formulas obtained at the q-level are now extended to the elliptic level in many research fields in mathematics and theoretical physics. In the present monograph, the recent progress of the elliptic extensions in the study of statistical and stochastic models in equilibrium and nonequilibrium statistical mechanics and probability theory is shown. At the elliptic level, many special functions are used, including Jacobi's theta functions, Weierstrass elliptic functions, Jacobi's elliptic functions, and others. This monograph is not intended to be a handbook of mathematical formulas of these elliptic functions, however. Thus, use is made only of the theta function of a complex-valued argument and a real-valued nome, which is a simplified version of the four kinds of Jacobi's theta functions. Then, the seven systems of orthogonal theta functions, written using a polynomial of the argument multiplied by a single theta function, or pairs of such functions, can be defined. They were introduced by Rosengren and Schlosser (2006), in association with the seven irreducible reduced affine root systems. Using Rosengren and Schlosser's theta functions, non-colliding Brownian bridges on a one-dimensional torus and an interval are discussed, along with determinantal point processes on a two-dimensional torus. Their scaling limitsare argued, and the infinite particle systems are derived. Such limit transitions will be regarded as the mathematical realizations of the thermodynamic or hydrodynamic limits that are central subjects of statistical mechanics.

This book provides the first extensive examination and analysis of the use of the urbanscape during the disaster process, by connecting its elements throughout disaster phases: the pre-disaster phase, consisting of reduction in form of prevention and mitigation; the disaster event phase, consisting of the disaster impact followed by the disaster effects; and the post-disaster phase, consisting of the post-disaster recovery. This work includes the analysis of 18 disaster case studies worldwide, of which 12 case studies are within the natural and 6 case studies within the man-made disaster category. The criteria for choosing these examples is based on the division into natural and man-made disaster subcategories and the period of their occurrence, from 1991 to 2021. The main purpose of this comparative analysis is to reveal the use of the urbanscape during the disaster process, through the role of its open public spaces during each disaster phase in both natural and man-made disastercategories. This book provides a self-contained introduction of mixed-effects models and small area estimation techniques. In particular, it focuses on both introducing classical theory and reviewing the latest methods. First, basic issues of mixed-effects models, such as parameter estimation, random effects prediction, variable selection, and asymptotic theory, are introduced. Standard mixed-effects models used in small area estimation, known as the Fay-Herriot model and the nested error regression model, are then introduced. Both frequentist and Bayesian approaches are given to compute predictors of small area parameters of interest. For measuring uncertainty of the predictors, several methods to calculate mean squared errors and confidence intervals are discussed.
