This book, the proceedings of the 32nd International Conference on Transplantation and Clinical Immunology, held in Lyon, France, on May 25-26, 2000, addresses novel issues in terms of changing indications for transplantation in the management of organ failure, whether humans will remain the only source for organ procurement, prospects for engineering in organ replacement, and whether transplantation will remain the most appropriate approach to organ failure. Some promising treatments are approached, such as enzymic and biochemical replacement, gene therapy, tolerance induction, stem cell transplantation, and xenotransplantation. Subanalytic and semialgebraic sets were introduced for topological and systematic investigations of real analytic and algebraic sets. One of the author's purposes is to show that almost all (known and unknown) properties of subanalytic and semialgebraic sets follow abstractly from some fundamental axioms. Another is to develop methods of proof that use finite processes instead of integration of vector fields. The proofs are elementary, but the results obtained are new and significant - for example, for singularity theorists and topologists. Further, the new methods and tools developed provide solid foundations for further research by model theorists (logicians) who are interested in applications of model theory to geometry. A knowledge of basic topology is required.

In the 1970s F. Calogero and D. Sutherland discovered that for certain potentials in one-dimensional systems, but for any number of particles, the Schrödinger eigenvalue problem is exactly solvable. Until then, there was only one known nontrivial example of an exactly solvable quantum multi-particle problem. J. Moser subsequently showed that the classical counterparts to these models is also amenable to an exact analytical approach. The last decade has witnessed a true explosion of activities involving Calogero-Moser-Sutherland models, and these now play a role in research areas ranging from theoretical physics (such as soliton theory, quantum field theory, string theory, solvable models of statistical mechanics, condensed matter physics, and quantum chaos) to pure mathematics (such as representation theory, harmonic analysis, theory of special functions, combinatorics of symmetric functions, dynamical systems, random matrix theory, and complex geometry). The aim of this volume is to provide an overview of the many branches into which research on CMS systems has diversified in recent years. The contributions are by leading researchers from various disciplines in whose work CMS systems appear, either as the topic of investigation itself or as a tool for further applications.

The articles collected in this volume represent the contributions presented at the IMA workshop on "Dynamics of Algorithms" which took place in November 1997. The workshop was an integral part of the 1997 -98 IMA program on "Emerging Applications of Dynamical Systems." The interaction between algorithms and dynamical systems is mutually beneficial since dynamical methods can be used to study algorithms that are applied repeatedly. Convergence, asymptotic rates are indeed dynamical properties. On the other hand, the study of dynamical systems benefits enormously from having efficient algorithms to compute dynamical objects.

A collection of refereed papers from a six-week workshop on statistics in the health sciences, that brought together theoretical and applied statisticians from universities, medical and public health schools, government and private research institutions, and pharmaceutical companies involved in prediction problems in the life and social sciences and in diagnostic and screening tests. A number of papers with applications were presented and particularly lively discussions ensued involving the critical issues and difficulties in using and interpreting diagnostic tests and implementing mass screening programs. The prediction or controlling future events, such as survival, comparative survival and survival post intervention for a disease or even for certain biological or natural events was also represented by participants who presented work that devised predictive methodology for a variety of problems mainly from a Bayesian perspective.
