The cycle of emotions, like few other phenomena, can significantly influence our performance in sports. For this reason, many elite athletes turn to mindfulness training as a form of training for mental strength and emotion regulation. Prominent examples include Novak Djokovic (tennis), Phil Jackson (basketball), and Malaika Mihambo (track and fields). In recent years, the benefits of mindfulness-based training have also been discussed in the scientific community, and initial studies confirm the positive effects of its application. Overall, the conclusion can be drawn that mindfulness training works similarly to strength training: the ability to maintain concentration and regulate one's own emotions can be trained like a muscle. This book explains, through vivid practical examples, the significance of emotions in sports, the history of mindfulness in sports, and the mechanisms of mindfulness training for athletes. The focus lies on a scientifically evaluated mindfulness program for both recreational and elite athletes, which can be done individually or in a group. The eight units of the program contain practical exercises as well as information on the background and effects of each exercise. Become your own mental coach to sustainably enhance your athletic performance. The authorsProf. Dr. Darko Jekauc, a former tennis player of Germany's Regional League, is familiar with the sudden onset of negative emotions that can cause doubt in a player and lead to a decline in their performance. He is currently the head of the department 'Health Education and Sports Psychology' at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and conducts scientific research on emotions in sports. His research group, including Lea Mülberger and Susanne Weyland, particularly focuses on the role of mindfulness training and emotions.

This textbook focuses on practical parallel C++ programming at the graduate student level. In particular, it shows the APIs and related language features in the C++ 17 and C++ 20 standards, covering both single node and distributed systems. It shows that with the parallel features in the C++ 17 and C++ 20 standards, learning meta-languages like OpenMP is no longer necessary. Using the C++ standard library for parallelism and concurrency (HPX), the same language features can be extended to distributed codes, providing a higher-level C++ interface to distributed programming than the Message Passing Interface (MPI). The book starts with the single-threaded implementation of the fractal sets, e.g. Julia set, and Mandelbrot set, using the C++ Standard Library (SL)'s container and algorithms. This code base is used for parallel implementation using low-level threads, asynchronous programming, parallel algorithms, and coroutines. The asynchronous programming examples are then extended to distributed programming using the C++ standard library for parallelism and concurrency (HPX). Octo-Tiger, an astrophysics code for stellar merger, is used as a showcase for a portable, efficient, and scalable high-performance application using HPX. The book's core audience is advanced undergraduate and graduate students who want to learn the basics of parallel and distributed C++ programming but are not computer science majors. Basic C++ knowledge, like functions, classes, loops, and conditional statements, is assumed as a requirement, while C++ advanced topics, like generic programming, lambda functions, smart pointers, and move semantics, are briefly summarized in the appendix.

Students spend significantly more time in school compared to any other formal institution during their lives; therefore, mental health in schools has attracted a lot of attention in recent years. According to Seligman et al. (2009), positive psychology in school is a response to the gap between what people want for their children and what schools teach. That is, most parents want their children to be happy, healthy, and confident, but schools only focus on achievement, discipline, and academic skills. These are of course important, but so are positive mental health outcomes. To fix this gap, schools must teach achievement and accomplishment along with positive psychology-informed mental health skills. In other words, positive education aims to bring positive psychology's goals of well-being and mental health support for everyone into the school setting.Psychological interventions have been around in schools since at least the 1930s. Therefore, it makes sense to supplement the already-existing traditional psychology in schools with positive psychology. In the field of psychology, positive psychology interventions are defined as those aimed at raising positive feelings, positive thoughts, and positive behaviour and increasing well-being. Positive Psychology Interventions in schools have been shown to improve mental health and well-being outcomes for students. Recent research has confirmed the same results, as offering emotional support early in a school year can lead to improved instructional quality later in that school year. In other words, positive school psychology interventions offer a focus on mental health in order to set the stage and give students the opportunity for academic achievement. Since the beginning of the positive psychology movement, the application of its assumptions in schools has been one of the movement's main pillars. The objective of the book is to help counsellors, teachers, and school leaders engage in a positive psychology research-based practice in schools.

This book studies climate change vulnerability in the Southern Part of the Indian Sundarbans Region, West Bengal, following the IPCC framework which highlights three prime components of vulnerability - exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity. This framework is considered as one of the best methods of vulnerability assessment as it uses direct household perception through collection of primary data, and recognizes a household's proficiency in maintaining sustainable means of livelihood to deal with climatic changes. This is especially important in gauging the knowledge and perception of local indigenous people on climate change, and determining what measures can be taken to foster informed decision making for improved climate change adaptation and management. The specific impact of climate change on women, their lives and livelihood are also given due attention, as there is little written about gendered vulnerability to climate change in the region. The final chapter elaborates the limits, barriers to adaptation of climate change and also extends site specific suggestions for achieving community resilience in the Indian Sundarbans Region.

The objective of the book is to show the complementarity and integration of food and non-food value chains for the development of a sustainable bioeconomy. One current challenge facing industry and the economy is to meet the needs of a growing world population while preserving the environment. The use of fossil energy resources for several decades has generated a decrease in reserves of these resources, together with a phenomenon of global warming due to the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. More and more industrial sectors, including the chemical industry, are replacing fossil carbon with renewable carbon. The bioeconomy consists in using renewable biological resources to produce food, materials, and energy. A bioeconomy based on the green chemistry and biotechnologies is developing worldwide, as a lever for reducing the ecological footprint of human activities. The book is articulated around six parts, each dedicated to a keystone of the interface betweengreen chemistry and Agro-Food Industry.
This is the sixth volume of the Handbook of Geometry and Topology of Singularities, a series which aims to provide an accessible account of the state-of-the-art of the subject, its frontiers, and its interactions with other areas of research. Singularities are ubiquitous in mathematics and science in general, and singularity theory is a crucible where different types of mathematical problems converge, surprising connections are born and simple questions lead to ideas which resonate in other parts of the subject, and in other subjects. This Volume VI goes together with Volume V and focuses on singular holomorphic foliations, which is a multidisciplinary field and a whole area of mathematics in itself. Singular foliations arise, for instance, by considering: The fibers of a smooth map between differentiable manifolds, with singularities at the critical points. The integral lines of a vector field, or the action of a Lie group on a manifold. The singularities are the orbits with special isotropy. The kernel of appropriate 1-forms. The singularities are the zeroes of the form.Open books, which naturally appear in singularity theory, are foliations with singular set the binding. These important examples highlight the deep connections between foliations and singularity theory. This volume consists of nine chapters, authored by world experts, which provide in-depth and reader-friendly introductions to some of the foundational aspects of the theory. These introductions also give insights into important lines of further research. Volume VI ends with an Epilogue by one of the current world leaders in the theory of complex foliations, with plenty of open questions and ideas for further research. The book is addressed to graduate students and newcomers to the theory, as well as to specialists who can use it as a guidebook.
