This book deals with both theoretical and technical possibilities of using anaerobic microorganisms in combination with wastewater as a substrate source to produce biofuels and bioenergy in the form of biomass, CH4 and H2 as well as the corresponding power densities and electricity quantities in economically justifiable processes. This open access book highlights the link between Bruno Latour's works and the semiotic perspective on social phenomena analysis. It identifies and relaunches a dialogue that was as heated as it was fruitful, but still little recognized within the social sciences. It asks why the theory of signification has so far been only sporadically acknowledged in literature derived from Latour's work. Starting from these premises, the book explores two interrelated dimensions, the initial one of a "semiotics for Latour", which looks at concepts from semiotics in Latour's study of social phenomena, and extensively for the first time, a symmetrical one of a "Latour for semiotics," accounting for the impact of Latourian inquiry on contemporary semiotic research. The framework guides the multi-hazard management of disaster risk in development at all levels and sectors. This book presents insights into how affective educational experiences may be associated with youth criminal behaviour and the pathway to recidivism. It explores the perspectives and lived school experiences of five young adult male prison inmates, including while they were incarcerated as youths. Through these case studies, the book explores the relationship between affective engagement in education and recidivism.This book shows that participants were affectively disengaged from education prior to their initial incarceration in a youth detention facility, and that their disaffection before, during, and after youth incarceration both generated and impacted on their cognitive and behavioural disengagement from education. Moreover, a range of additional factors not directly causally related to their schooling were shown to have had a significant effect on their engagement in education. The book considers a number of key findings. First, the foundational role that a sense of belonging plays in how young people experience education and its relation to crime.
