Gary James explores electoral politics from the 1960s to present day, providing a portal to black American contemporary politics. His insightful book discusses the internal dynamic between the civil rights and black power juxtaposition. Two main characters animate the narrative, Spike and CadreUSA, who hold an informal dialogue on black politics from their respective points of view. Apart from the traditional perspectives that are contrasted in the political conversation of African Americans - from Africa to the Caribbean to the American mainland - the election of President Barack Obama in 2008 as the first African American president has overshadowed and colored the conversation among black Americans in particular. This stunning and politically earth-shattering event had an incendiary impact on the popular political imagination, igniting and inspiring many questions and speculations relative to the trajectory of American politics. Some of these questions, speculations, and perspectives are debated by the two main characters. The setting is Harlem, and the period is now.A product of the 1960s black consciousness generation by way of the civil rights and black power political movements, Gary James was a staff organizer based in New York City for the National Welfare Rights Organization (NWRO) from 1965 to 1971. In addition to being a role player in the civil rights movement under the umbrella of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party, he enjoyed a colorful political career as a leader of the grassroots activist wing of the Republican Party beginning in the 1980s. The story line and subtext of Black Politics 2.0 is experientially based and offers a perspective of an expert witness as well as a role player. This is his fifth book.Publisher's website: http://sbpra.com/GaryJamesAuthor's website: http://www.GaryJoseJames.com
Want to know the difference between ''cause'' and ''reason''? Not sure when to write ''according'' and when ''accordingly''? Confused about the correct usage of the gerund? This book is a compilation of the "Polishing Up English" newsletters I have been sending for over six years to employees whose native language is not English. In these newsletters, I cover common language issues for business people.Based on personal experience, I came to understand that most of the mistakes non-native speakers of English make are shared, and are encountered across the board, rather than being unique and strictly personal. Some mistakes appear more often than others. Examples of most frequent mistakes are analyzed and included. These mistakes also occur in contexts common to most areas of human interaction, such as small talk, in-office conversation, business correspondence, IT, and similar communication. This book features simpler chapters for beginners, Pronunciation and Punctuation. Followed by chapters for intermediate learners of English, such as Words and Phrases. Advanced users of English can use the Style and Quiz chapters to test their understanding of the language. This makes the book ideal for any non-native speaker of English, who proactively uses English on a daily basis for communicating with various English speakers both in written form and orally.Using this book will give you a unique opportunity to cut the list of possible mistakes you may make to a minimum. History books are usually written by victors, while the defeated write poetry and words of nostalgia hoping for better days. This volume takes major defeats in Jewish history and tries to describe what happens to a defeated nation, and how in the specific case of Israel and the Jews, the trauma of defeat engenders hope and forces the survivors to learn lessons for the future. The destruction of the two Jewish temples in antiquity, the Holocaust, and the 1973 War serve as case studies to illustrate the problematic.National grief as a result of disasters is a process of recuperation. Drawing lessons learned from the event will help the nation come out of trauma. Survivors commemorating the dead also help that process.About the AuthorBorn in Morocco, where he faced discrimination and death threats, Raphael Israeli emigrated to Israel. Like my first book published in 1999, The Historical Roots of Proper Islamic Governance in Bermuda, this is a history book. It clarifies some points in my first book, but more importantly, it addresses questions about the Bermuda Triangle that are continuously asked by Muslims the world over, both by many of the Ulama as well as ordinary Muslims, and also asked by non-Muslims.No one prior to me has discovered the answers I relate in this book about the Bermuda Triangle. The so-called mystery is solved by me, a Bermudian Muslim, and all praise is due to God. Why shouldn't God's mercy allow a Bermudian to discover something unique about Bermuda? The Bermuda Triangle Islamic Perspective: Within the Context of Bermuda Muslim History begins to unfold in the year 2000 and takes us up to present day. It is a new perspective of untold proportions.Wayne Lonnie Brown is a financial policy advisor in Bermuda who wishes to dispel misconceptions about his country. The Civil War novel Ragman''s Roll takes readers back to that bitter period of American history, as two men enlist right after war breaks out. Will Wallace and Tom Jackson were aides and security agents for President Lincoln. After helping him win the presidency in 1860, they are now embarking on a new adventure, fending off death and the possible division of the union.Tom becomes a scout for Will, who rises in rank to become Union General W. H. L. Wallace. As the hero of two battles, Fort Donelson and Shiloh, Wallace was responsible for saving Grant''s army at the Battle of Shiloh, despite being fatally injured on the battlefield.A secondary plot focuses on the dreams of General Wallace as he lay dying from his wounds. A vision appears to him, reminding of him of the true reason for his sacrifice: to ensure the end of slavery and preserve democracy.About the AuthorJon Neal Wallace grew up in Burlington, Iowa. Just north, in the township of Northfield, is a cemetery holding the remains of the author''s great-great grandfather, James Parker Wallace Sr., first cousin of General W. H. L. Wallace. The inspiration for this book came because of a quote made by General Grant, stating, " ''Had General W. H. L. Wallace lived, I would not be where I am today." This meant General Will did something special, "so I started researching, and found out the true facts about the general. He is the unsung hero of the Civil War." The author holds an MFA in creative writing from Goddard College. This is his first book. The next is about the Underground Railroad in Iowa.Cover flag photo provided by Illinois State Military MuseumPublisher''s website: http://sbpra.com/JonNealWallace

When I first started writing poetry at 16, I never intended to write a book. Writing poetry for me was over a girl. Then it turned into more of a biography of my own life, such as a snapshot of that moment in time. When I was feeling in love, I wrote poems about love, and also those more depressing moments that come with heartbreak and loneliness. Poetry became a method of therapy at first, but as I experienced different moments in life through the military, traveling, marriage, children, and divorce, I have grown through the years and so has my poetry.Writing was something I knew I could do, and for some reason I was able to express myself through words. It was a way I was able to escape from reality, by expressing myself in poetry. Many poems have been lost over the years, but for the most part, this poetry collection is still a very close representation of my personal life and all its Tears, Wishes, and Dreams.About the AuthorPaul Anthony Minger was born in the little steel mill town of Weirton, West Virginia. He has served three deployments with the Army Reserves in Iran and Afghanistan. "I feel by the completion of this book that this is a chapter of my life that has been well documented and now closed. I can move on with a new chapter as I continue to write new material. Since it took 22 years to publish this one, maybe in another 22 years I will be ready to publish another one and call it Blood, Sweat, and Years."Publisher''s website: http://sbprabooks.com/PaulAnthonyMinger
Reflections, Remorse, and Revelations is a general poetry book, not concentrated in any one area. Its majority is "light" in content, especially in the beginning. As the book proceeds, there is a mix of silliness and seriousness to capture reader imagination. This poetry collection is appropriate for anyone teenage and older.Says the author, "I wrote my first poem about myself approximately fifteen years ago. I have been on self-imposed hiatus for the last few years. In May of 2012, it was time to come back to it to see if there was a place in the poetic world for me. Writing poetry is a hobby. In sports they call it 'the love of the game.' Everyone won't be a superstar, but they still want to play."About the AuthorJuanita Alexandria Davis was raised in the Rehoboth Beach area of Delaware and now resides in Baltimore, Maryland. She is an admissions coordinator for a hospital. "The obstacle was coming up with enough poems to fill a book. I went on the Internet and asked how many poems should be in a poetry book. The answer was provided by a child. She said, "As many as your heart can handle."
Lies, Deceit, Adultery and my Husband's Boyfriend is the moving autobiography of Anne Maree Spencer, as she encounters the heartbreaking news that the love of her life has not only been cheating on her and lying for over two years, but his new partner is a man. Her once loving heterosexual partner and the father of her two children has " changed his sexual preference" after 30 years of marriage. Anne Maree's pursuit of getting her life back on track with the support of her children and friends is a touching book about the power and determination of one woman's fight against feeling unloved and worthless to that of re-inventing herself. This autobiography tells it like it is, with no apologies for its descriptive language. You will be inspired by the author's rise in self-esteem and self-worth as she divorces her cheating husband, who left her for "Boo Boo," a man 30-plus years his junior. This book not only opens "a can of worms" of lies, deceit and adultery but puts into perspective what quite a few women are experiencing in their daily lives. Anne Maree opens her soul to give other women the courage and strength to grow beyond these harsh realities to become a better, stronger empowered woman.About the Author: Anne Maree Spencer grew up in Melbourne, Australia. "I have been through hell and back in my discovery of my unfaithful husband. I have dragged myself up from the depths of depression. My friends encouraged me to write about it as not only therapy, but also as a way to help other women who find themselves in a similar situation."
One of the most tragic and cruel periods in modern European history unfolded in the early 1990s, as we watched the rampages committed by all parties in the Bosnian War. The Serbs, who were in control of the destiny of Yugoslavia and were the mainstay of the Yugoslav army, gradually lost their grip, as international intervention favored the independence of Bosnia. The flames of war pitting the three populations against each other brought about the deaths of hundreds of thousands, and ended with the imposed Dayton Accords, with which the parties were not entirely content. The war showed not only that old enmities never die - for all parties saw this war as a continuation of World War II horrors, when the Croats and their Bosnian partners collaborated with the Nazis - but also as a heritage of the old Balkan wars, where outside intervention, notably Muslim, American, NATO, and UN was necessary to bring the conflict to an end (for now).Born in Fes, Morocco, Raphael Israeli teaches Islamic, Chinese, and Middle Eastern history at Hebrew University, Jerusalem. My name is Wendy. I was a 14-year-old girl just trying to make it in today''s cruel world. I lived in Florida with my mom and stepdad, and then was sent to live with my dad and his wife Karen in South Boston, mainly because I didn''t get along with my stepdad.Even though I loved my dad and Karen a lot, I revolted against them any way I could. My first week there as I was sitting outside eating lunch, a little sparrow flew down and sat on the table with me. I was shocked and didn''t know what to do. I tossed her a piece of bread and she took it and flew back to her nest. Minutes later she flew back. I was surprised as she hopped over and into my hands as I fed her. I named her Tiffany because she had sparkling eyes and I loved that name. She became my best friend and was always there for me.I was really bad the whole time I lived in Boston. I didn''t mean to be, but I wanted to go back home where my true friends were. After being sent home, I didn''t change my ways and became more defiant. Somehow I wish I could turn back the clock and change the way things turned out, but that can''t happen. We learn to live with our mistakes, but I wish Tiffany was here with me. I missed her the most ...James A. Richardson, Jr. says, "My wife Karen is a strong woman all around with a loving heart. Wendy is my daughter from a previous marriage, and Tiffany was a little sparrow that became our friend and family."Publisher''s website: http://sbprabooks.com/JamesARichardsonJr
A Culture of Fear takes readers inside the largest child protective services agency in the country, Los Angeles County''s Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS). Julian J. Dominguez and Melinda Murphy, current and former DCFS employees, respectively, expose some of the most serious deficiencies of the agency. They detail systemic core issues that include a lack of integrity in DCFS court report writing, and describe how reunification of families is marginalized or set aside and eclipsed by other priorities, including personal opinions, departmental positions, personality conflicts, prejudices/biases, and "cover your ass at all costs."The authors shine a light on the struggles of social workers in this agency, where values can stray far, far, from the publicly proclaimed mission, which is supposed to protect children and reunify families. This book is very unique by all measures, and is meant to serve as a starting point, not a solution or finish line. It will hopefully evoke meaningful dialogue resulting in reform and needed change.About the AuthorsJulian J. Dominguez, LMFT, received his master''s degree from Chapman University in marriage, family, and child counseling. He is a licensed MFT and his specialties include child welfare, sexual assault, vicarious trauma, and critical incident debriefing. He has worked for DCFS since 1996.
