Go back in time to the early 1900s when the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church was still in its youth and walk with Mary Haskell as she trudges from house to house selling Adventist books. Sympathize with her as her mother torments her and her sister, Susan, as they remain true to God and the Adventist faith, even after the rest of the family falls away. Rejoice as some of those who buy her books also give their lives over to Jesus.Share Mary's happiness as she falls in love with Clarence Rentfro, marries, and shares his dream of being missionaries in Spain. Feel the bittersweet emotions as she says goodbye to sister Susan and her young husband, Edwin Wilbur, as they leave to be among the first missionaries to China. You'll also feel Mary's and Clarence's shock when the call finally comes for them to go to the mission field-and it's not Spain! You will learn the lesson that the Rentfros learned that God sometimes sends us to places, not of our choosing. But He always goes with us and blesses our efforts to do His work. Mary and Clarence clung to God through privation and plenty, sorrow and joy, as they faithfully did the work placed before them.It is good for us to know what our pioneers did and how the Seventh-day Adventist Church has grown through the years. We can find inspiration, in their faith and efforts to build up the kingdom of God on this earth, to continue the good work until Jesus comes again.
Lest you think that Dr. Coleman has "quit preachin' and gone to meddlin'" in this sensitive topic of music, and especially church-appropriate music, please give this book a chance. Coleman draws from many sources, both Seventh-day Adventist and non-Adventist, to explain just how the type of music we use in church worship services affects our worship experience and our Christian experience. When addressing the current trend of Contemporary Christian Music (CCM), he assures the reader that he is not against all CCM, but cautions against using a song just because it may be popular or may draw a certain crowd into the church. He shows how merely the use of contemporary music may attract people to attend church, but it doesn't necessarily lead to a true conversion or the intentional discipling of those people.Dr. Coleman states, "The seeker sensitive model involved a de-emphasis of traditional methods of evangelism and discipleship such as doctrinal preaching, calling for repentance from sin, and committing oneself to give Bible studies; rather, it focused on innovation and meeting the wants of people-often dubbed "felt needs" … The seeker sensitive model also caused people to view Christianity as something "cool" and made them feel comfortable in "dressing down" to attend church worship service, sometimes in jeans and a t-shirt. However, it resulted in producing spiritually weak Christians who were pastor-dependent and not committed to making disciples for Christ."Music ministry leaders and anyone who enjoys music in church will learn to be a little more discriminating in the choice of music after gaining the insights provided in this book.
Imagine losing your mother, your father, and your home in a matter of months. What would you do? This is precisely what happened to Esther, and in this book Charis McRoy uses her imagination to explore what Esther might have been thinking, feeling, and experiencing using the words of a young girl pouring out her heart in her diary. Whether she was living as a street waif, moving in with her cousin Mordecai and his wife, Chana, or winning the ultimate beauty pageant making her queen of all Persia, Esther holds on to her faith, recording it all in her treasured diary.Naturally, the author's imagination has filled in some of the blanks left in the biblical account. Nevertheless, the storyline remains faithful to the history that we do know. As you read, you will admire anew a young woman's determination to be faithful to the God who was always faithful to her, even amid trying circumstances.
In the fear of God, and in all solemnity, I must tell you that if you are a conservative Seventh-day Adventist male there is a very real possibility that you have accepted "Another Jesus." I must also tell you, the stakes are far too high not to find out.In the same fear of God and the same solemnity, I say to every conservative Seventh-day Adventist female that although the likelihood that you have accepted this same false Christ is definitely less, the possibility is still there. And even if you have not, the men that you love so much-your husband, your father, your sons-may have.I realize that what I have just said may be pretty disturbing, but I believe with all my heart that it is true, and that the seriousness of the situation calls for solemn words and solemn pleas. I am convinced that multitudes of sincere, Spirit-of-Prophecy-loving Seventh-day Adventists have accepted an understanding of Christ and of righteousness that will cause them to lose out on eternity. Please, try to realize how real is Christ's warning: "If it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."
Father, Bless Me Indeed didn't start out as a book. Rather, it was a personal quest by the author after she failed a critical nursing exam that, had she passed, would have had a huge impact on her family and career. In desperation, she started praying the prayer of Jabez and was impressed to explore what the Scriptures say about God's blessings. The prayers and thoughts attached to each of the Bible blessings came from her devotional study. There are thoughts like: "Open my eyes that I may see You when my way is darkened with sorrow, anxiety, or pain. Speak to me in Your still, quiet voice when my world is filled with the noise of doubt and discontent."The author wants you the reader to understand that, no matter what your circumstances are, you are blessed of God, for God's blessings are not always tangible. His blessings may come wrapped in feelings of hope, a supportive family, good health, a sense of peace, or the assurance that God is with you. Always remember the promise-laden words of the Apostle Paul, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Phil. 4:13, NKJV).
Saddle up and get ready for an exciting ride through the life of Dan Rotthoff. From his birthplace in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania, to his current residence in Ritter, Oregon, Dan's life has been full of hard work and lots of adventure. Sawmill owner, soldier, farmer, rancher, traveling salesman, pilot, cowboy, and lay pastor are just some of the occupations that he has worked at through nine decades of life.Husband of one and father of three, Dan did whatever it took to provide for his family and to raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. He and his beloved Margie, aka Nana, worked side-by-side through good times and adversity, always trying to follow the Lord's leading. Jobs took them from Pennsylvania to California and then to Idaho. As owners of a cattle ranch in Garden Valley, Idaho for nearly forty years, Dan and Margie gifted the ranch with its home and barns to an organization known as Project Patch, that provides a new start for troubled teenagers. This gift was made in 1989-1990.When Dan lost his precious Margie to the ravages of illness, he could have settled into a quiet retirement. Instead, he answered the call to be a volunteer lay pastor in the remote Alaskan village of Togiak, where he served for four years in his mid-eighties.Join Dan as he recounts all the ways the Lord has led and protected him and his family through the years-through close calls on land and in the air, long treks through the snowy Idaho mountains on skis, cattle drives, and financial gain … and loss.
To many, the idea that women must work outside the home is a given. The days of the "stay-at-home-mom" seem to be gone. However, Jan Voerman-father, grandfather, and seasoned pastor-asks mothers to reflect upon how dropping their child off at daycare amidst tears and cries can negatively impact them in the future. He asks them to recall in comparison the joy and contentment that little face shows when he or she can be home in the presence of the most important person in their life: their mother. The time is brief that Christian mothers have to lead their little ones to Jesus and to raise them to respect God and their fellow human beings. Pastor Voerman recognizes the toll on mothers, their children, the church, and even society at large, when mothers must juggle the dual professions of home and career. His concern for mothers and families is based on the work of social science experts, personal observation, and on the very words of mothers who themselves feel torn in the struggle to be a superhero on all fronts.
There is a God who loves you so much that He wants you to grow closer to Him through prayer. This is the central theme of Doctor Samuel Bulgin's book, Prayer: Conversations with God. Bulgin points out that prayer, which is talking to One we have never seen, is foreign to humans. Therefore, growing through prayer requires pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone by committing ourselves to a regular pattern of communication with God and not just praying on a whim. Prayer takes us deeper in our relationship with Him than we would choose to go ourselves. Since God already knows everything about us before we pray, the benefit to praying is in confessing our thoughts and feelings to the One who loved us first. This thoughtful book also covers: Remembering to whom we are praying; Finding intimacy with God through prayer; Effective patterns for prayer; What to pray about; The focus of faith in prayer; Praying when you don't know whether it is God's will; Unleashing supernatural power through prayer; What hinders our prayers; Why God doesn't answer all our prayers.
Chinedu Daniel Obasi's latest literary contribution, The Green Sabbath and the Last Vista of Hope, is the result of a careful examination of numerous newsworthy occurrences transpiring on the world stage and their apocalyptic implications. Readers will be soberly intrigued by how intertwined these occurrences are, and how they crystalize and verify the predictions made by Daniel, the apostle John, and other Bible prophets.Obasi begins by highlighting several environmental and ecological developments and their parallels to what Jesus called the early birth pangs of end-time unfolding. From here he points to the responses from political and ecclesiastical leaders regarding these developments, and how this is all laying the foundation for the diminishing of religious and civil liberty, as foretold in Revelation 13.While this well-researched book discusses many topics, including global warming, Catholicism, the old and new covenants, and Islam, the author skillfully ties everything together to alert as many as possible to the solemn times in which we live and the need to increase awareness and preparedness. However, his greatest emphasis is on the One who is truly in charge of the past, present, and future-the One in whom we can place our confidence.
Get ready to dive into a good old-fashion missionary story! Reminiscent of the mission stories of Josephine Cunnington Edwards and Eric B. Hare, the Arnetts will take you with them as they go to Zimbabwe, Africa for several years of mission service. You'll sympathize with them when they are robbed soon after arrival, and then have to wait-and wait-for their belongings to catch up to them. You'll rejoice at the baptisms they witness, and weep at the deaths of the ones they've come to love. Fasten your seat belt and ride along as they go on vacation to the neighboring countries of Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, and Zambia. Feel the excitement of seeing lions, elephants, leopards, wildebeests, giraffes, and other wild animals up close. Visualize the breath-taking beauty of Victoria Falls, the grandeur of Mount Kilimanjaro, and relax in the peacefulness of Malawi Lake. Endure with them the ups and downs of learning a new culture, attempting to learn a new language, dealing with thieving domestics, learning to ration water during a drought, and sampling new foods that shock their taste buds. Most of all, you will reinforce your faith in God as you see how He cared for His workers when they were far from home.
Somewhere in the Middle East, a mysterious, golden chest has been hidden from the human eye for thousands of years. No one knows its location, but many have searched for it, hoping to be the one to solve the mystery: "Where is the ark of the covenant?"The story of the ark begins, not in its creation under the direction of Moses in the desert, but in heaven, in the midst of the war between Satan and God. The fruit of that war was a fallen earth, and the answer to our salvation is part and parcel of why the ark was made. The contents of the ark of the covenant are the center of the life filled with the grace of Christ.Someday, when Jesus comes again and reveals the ark's hidden location, long-held mysteries will be solved. But, in the meantime, here is the story of the golden ark, its special contents, and its impact, not only on those who beheld it but on those of us in this world at the end of time.
In a world that is increasingly linking faith to social, economic, cultural and political inequality, and often holds religion responsible for gender inequality, Genderstanding Jesus asks a thought-provoking question: "What would Jesus do about gender relations?"Genderstanding Jesus examines the lives of women from His View. It reveals the many instances in which Jesus directly addressed women's subjugation and suffering. Moreover, it documents Jesus' tendency to break through social, cultural and religious traditions to exonerate, liberate and empower women. It challenges the Christian community to do as Jesus did! Author Meryl James-Sebro, Ph.D., a Christian development anthropologist, warns of the danger in society of relying on male-dominated or gender neutral interpretations of God's Word. She urges a more genderstood look at the Life and MInistry of Jesus, and the way in which He valued, respected, honoured, defended and promoted women's interests as a model for contemporary Christianity.

Though it is God who prepares each of us for our entrance into eternity, Kenneth Davis, the author of The Offer of Paradise in Our Lifetime, is convicted that this is not a spectator sport, especially in these moments of history. This volume is a Bible and Spirit of Prophecy-based discourse on the role we have in hastening Christ's return and the end of this sin-tarnished planet. Found within these pages is a prayerful and systematic search into the question of what is keeping the Lord's finishing touches of salvation on hold. Many, even within the household of faith, find themselves troubled over the thought of hearing reports indicating that the end has come. While believing in the second coming, the sense of its imminence is frequently a source of hesitation. Could this have something to do with our uncertainty over whether we are ready or not? With that said, good news is coming. Readers will examine how the power of endurance and readiness, available to young and old, is enlarged by an understanding of God's plan of granting His saints today an indispensable role in the timing of the end. This role encompasses unity on simple but specific commitments of faith. Our reward will be the privilege of claiming the promise of His return within our lifetime as a reality, not speculative sensationalism. This privilege includes a precursor-cooperating with and being filled by the Holy Spirit to an unprecedented measure-that we may ultimately reflect the image of God and more effectively draw a countless multitude from every nation, kindred, and tribe into His fold.

A common topic throughout Ellen White's prolific writings is healthy living. She believed that the use of artificial drugs and drug-taking accounted for a great many deaths that could have been avoided had the doctor and patient faithfully relied upon God and His plan for health and healing. While times have changed, her warnings still hold much value. Each and every day, people around the globe depend more and more upon the medications often forced upon them by doctors and pharmaceutical companies. Through this compilation of her writings on the use of drugs in the care of the sick, Ellen White urges the reader to try a different way-THE BETTER WAY … GOD'S WAY.
