History teacher Raine Carson suddenly finds herself running for her life through the grassy hills of 1555 Scotland from a band of angry and murderous brigands when only that very morning she had awoken in her own bed in the modern day world. She should never have agreed to participate in her colleague's experiment when he told her about the strange outcrop of stones that he had discovered hidden in the midst of the Colorado mountains. Raine's urgency and determination to return to her modern world is shaken by her growing feelings for the Scottish Laird who offers to share his world with her. She must decide between returning alone to her home she so desperately misses or accept the offer of a new home and a new life in the ancient highlands with the man who has stolen her heart.
