A Second Chance at Life

About A Second Chance at Life

Monica didn’t have the perfect childhood. Her father’s alcoholism brought them a life of poverty. Eventually, Bill is given an ultimatum by his wife to get professional help or leave. Monica is five years old when he walks out, but hopes they’ll be a family again. Bill’s inability to quit drinking leads to divorce. He makes a feeble attempt to be a father figure, but then disappears without a trace. Rosa does her best to give her children a normal life. She takes a job in housekeeping where she meets her second husband. Roger is given an opportunity to work in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He lavishes the good life on his new family, but Monica yearns for her father. She tries to adapt to the changes, but after experiencing many disappointments in her teenage years, Monica turns to drinking. She goes down a treacherous path that nearly takes her life. After battling with illness and depression Monica commits her life to Jesus and learns not to take her health or her family for granted. A Second Chance at Life is a heartrending story that teaches us that life’s many challenges can be overcome. Anna Gomez-Rodgers moved from California to New Mexico when she was eight years old. Her inspiration came from her sixth grade teacher who told her mother, “I look forward to reading one of Anna’s books one day.” Being a full time nurse gives her many opportunities to pray and share Christ’s love with others. Her hobbies include camping in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico, gardening and of course, writing. She and her husband are members of their church choir and Albuquerque’s Gospel Choir, “Young at Heart.” She is looking forward to retirement so she can resume her hobbies full time and devote more time to writing.
