Advancement of Learning and Novum Organum

This two-part work by Francis Bacon, published in 1605 and 1620 respectively, is a landmark of modern scientific and philosophical thought. In the Advancement of Learning, Bacon argues for a new approach to knowledge based on empirical observation and experimentation. In the Novum Organum, he lays out a new method of inductive reasoning intended to reveal the underlying laws of nature. These seminal works continue to influence scientific and philosophical inquiry to this day.
