Application of simulation in Dermatology

About Application of simulation in Dermatology

Black tumors are a frequent reason for consultation in dermatological practice. Every dermatologist's main concern is to rule out cutaneous melanoma. We propose a hybrid simulation scenario for dermatology residents, with the objectives of dermoscopically diagnosing melanoma among other pigmented skin lesions, and then announcing the diagnostic suspicion to the simulated patient.A hybrid simulator consisting of a mannequin torso bearing pigmented skin lesions and a simulated patient was set up in the simulation room. A digital dermoscope and a computer were required. The target audience consists of 4 dermatology residents. The clinical situation presented is that of a patient consulting for the modification of one of the pigmented lesions he has on his back. After welcoming the patient, the learner examines the pigmented lesions on a mannequin's torso, and interprets aloud the corresponding dermoscopic image, which he or she visualizes on a computer screen. During the debriefing, the trainer discusses the various stages of the scenario, using Contextualization-Decontextualization-Recontextualization loops.
