It is only James Joyce's towering genius as a novelist that has led to the comparative neglect of his poetry and sole surviving play. James Joyce debuterede som lyriker i 1907 med samlingen "Chamber Music", formfuldendte lyriske digte i elizabethansk stil. Tyve år senere fulgte samlingen "Pomes penyeach".
