After Steven was stoned and the Gospel was first preached to the Jews, Christ anointed Saul of Tarsus to carry the gospel message to the Gentiles. The church was formed over the next few years and Paul wrote 13 separate Epistles to explain salvation and forgiveness of sins under the new Covenant. Shortly after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Jerusalem Church was founded as the first Christian church with about 120 Jews and Jewish Proselytes (Acts 1:15). Since that time, followers of Jesus Christ span the globe but the body of Christ has been separated into 200 Christian denominations in the United States. and a staggering 45,000 globally (Center for the Study of Global Christianity): Catholic, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Baptist, Apostolic, Methodist.... the list goes on and on. Why has this happened since the Jerusalem church was founded in the 1st century AD? A cursory look shows that differences in beliefs, theology and corruption all had a part to play. How sad that the single atoning work of our Lord Jesus Christ has splintered into so many parts. Jesus Christ never taught that there would be different denominal forces fighting over variations of common, basic truth. This book has not been written to free any Christian from denominational chains.
