British Admirals and Chinese Pirates, 1832-1869

This study, first published in 1940, examines in detail the suppression of piracy in China. It considers the influence of the Admiralty on the development of British foreign policy in the nineteenth century, and studies the actions of the China Station and its undertakings to suppress piracy.
