Despite her initial opposition she finally agreed and over the course of the next year the Deets family packed up everything of value and set sail for America. The voyage was arduous at best, but the Deets family had sacrificed everything in an effort to improve their lives. Despite the hardships of crossing the world's oceans to reach the 'promise land' 'Bart' was convinced that despite a Civil War, and a land that was supposedly inhabited by blood thirsty Indians, that he would somehow find a way to 'make a living'.
