MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging and it is used to take pictures of the internal organs and soft tissues of the body without using X-rays. It uses magnets and radio waves to produce detailed pictures of the body's soft tissues and internal organs. During the process of magnetic resonance imaging, a dye known as contrast medium is injected into the person's blood via a vein in the forearm or hand.
