Clinico-epidemiological characterisation of onychomycoses

About Clinico-epidemiological characterisation of onychomycoses

Fungal infections of the skin, hair and nails are among the most common infections worldwide. Such infection predominates in children, the elderly, males and immunocompromised people with diseases such as diabetes, cancer or HIV. For some patients, nail disease is only a cosmetic inconvenience and not a medical problem, so they seek advice or counselling for cosmetic and aesthetic reasons. However, it can cause pain, social and emotional discomfort, permanent damage to the nail and contagion to others. Depending on its classification, the patient may require long-term treatment. This work aims to provide elements to provide a solution to the increase in the incidence of onychomycosis in the dermatology clinics of the Raúl Sánchez polyclinic in the municipality of Pinar del Río.
