Lajos (Ludwig) Blau (1861-1936) was a professor of Talmud at the rabbinical seminary in Budapest. This 1898 book (reissued here in its 1914 second edition) was the first comprehensive study of Jewish magic from the biblical period to the early middle ages, and is still regarded as an authoritative guide.
