During the Qing Dynasty in 1801, pirates kidnapped Mógū from a floating brothel off the shore of Guangzhou. So began one of the most notorious adventurers to take on the waters of South China. Mógū's rough start as a discarded daughter raised by nuns worsened after puberty when she was sold to work on a flower boat.
