The book tells the hitherto untold story of evolution of employment conditions in India over a period of six decades beginning in the mid-1950s. It reviews, in a sharp and concise manner, the conditions of employment existing at the start of India's journey of development, the way the conditions have changed since then and the linkages between the changes in employment conditions and economic growth. It outlines the employment challenge that India is now confronted
