The story of Esther is wonderful all on its own, but it is more than a simple story that gives the background for the celebration of Purim. A study of the literary elements reveals themes, moods and symbolism that enrich the story and journey of a young, Hebrew maiden to becoming a mighty heroine and savior of her people.
Moreover, the story provides many portraits of God's redemptive covenants with His chosen people. We see pictures of the old covenant of the law and of the new covenant of grace through Christ's sacrifice.
