Everything is Made of Water

"We never stopped looking back. A few photos, to which we added our own. They were always there at the beginning, always the first thing we saw. They meant less to our children, even less to their children. Occasionally they would ask questions, but more to see us remember than to hear the memory itself." This is Gertie's story. From her poor childhood in a convent in Burma, to her marriage to a wealthy young airman, from the ship that brought her to England, to her new life as an immigrant, wife, mother, grandmother, and back again. Now in her 80s, and succumbing to dementia, Gertie tells her own story, in her own time, and in her own words, as the person she once was begins to disappear.
