The continuation of Hick's Road: Jacob's Story, as told by the journal of Ann Miller.
Picking-up moments after Ann and Jacob part ways during a battle with the Hand of Transcendence, Ann mitigates the new challenges she faces with her surrogate Skitcha family and aristocratic upbringing. Aspiring to a position in the government, Ann questions the status-quo as a woman of the 1850s while working secretly on behalf of the tribe in a case against the reconstruction of the Quicksilver Mining Company. While protecting the spiritual roots of the Skitcha, Ann finds herself confronted by a mysterious group of businessmen who jeopardize the safety of Almaden Valley when they plan to construct a road that could divide the powers of the land as they know it. Presented with these threats, Ann must carve her own path as she fights for her family, the land, and the future of the tribe.
