Ideas and Solidarities of the Medieval Laity

These essays deal with medieval urban communities and the loyalties and beliefs of medieval people. They argue that the ideas of medieval laity should be taken seriously in their own right, and not as ideas derived from the clergy. Cultural and social attitudes are explored in this light.
