Many companies today have multiple factories spread across different countries, known as international manufacturing networks (IMN). These factories may have different purposes and levels of expertise which affect how effective different manufacturing methods are. With the growth of new industries such as information technology and services, the number of industrial engineers working outside of traditional manufacturing is increasing.
