Henry VI, Part 1 opens at the funeral of Henry V, who died unexceptedly in his prime. Henry's brothers and his uncle do not think his son, who will be Henry VI, is ready to take his father's place. War has broken out with France once again, and the young king must prove he is worthy to be his father's successor.
