"How do you explain simultaneously needing your father's love but also fearing him?" This is the story of Milly Ray-Cortez, a high school senior who is determined to prove that she is just another ordinary teenage girl. However, growing rumors at school make it difficult to keep up the façade, especially when those rumors are true. At home, Milly has to avoid her abusive and alcoholic father and the haunting ghost of her mother. At school, she tries to avoid the cliques of mean girls and figure out who she can trust. However, her methods of escape get her into more trouble than she can handle. A positive pregnancy test threatens everything. Milly must choose to either finally tell the truth or let senior year be her breaking point.
