Lizards' Tale

About Lizards' Tale

What if animals, especially lizards could talk and express emotions? What if they worried about having a safe, happy home just like humans do? The Lizards' Tale is a whimsical account written by an African American who has lived in West Africa for many years. It takes place on a sunny day in Ghana, when the Oppong lizard family met the Asare lizard family on the road. The Oppongs had just moved out of their former home in Auntie Mariama's house and had set off in search of a new place to live. They told the Asares a hair-raising tale of what life for a lizard was like in that woman's house. It was terrible! They could not live there a minute longer! The Asares were on their way to live in that same house and were shocked to hear the Oppongs' tale of woe. Oh dear! Will the Asares choose to go to Auntie Mariama's house as they had planned?Mariama Ross wrote and illustrated The Lizards' Tale. It is a whimsical tale, which, like all her stories, was inspired by real events from her many years living in Ghana and other African countries. An artist and career educator, she creates books to teach children about Africa, while sharing her love affair with this under-treated part or our world.
