Oregon. Every pioneer family's dream. For thirteen year old Marie, it might as well be a Godsend. Making a trip across a few states is nothing compared to surviving the New Orleans streets, is it? She has her parents and her brothers and sisters. How hard can it be? Between rattlesnakes, blizzards, and a malaria outbreak, "hard" might seem to be too mild a word. Luckily there's also a wedding, hoedowns, and hilarious tall tales around a campfire to even it out! But... well, someone's got to say it. What if it's all been for nothing? Can the Lavigne family ever really make it to Oregon? Was it all just a big mistake?
