In 1820-3, Russian explorer Ferdinand von Wrangell (1797-1870) led an expedition to survey Siberia's north-eastern coastline. Translated into English from German, this wide-ranging account of a little-known portion of the globe was edited by the geophysicist Sir Edward Sabine (1788-1883) and published in 1840.
