Finding previous attempts to be incomplete, John Williams (1797-1874) sought to catalogue and translate the comet observations recorded by Chinese astronomers over two millennia. This 1871 publication also includes chronological tables and a Chinese celestial atlas, enabling comparison between the Chinese and Western systems for dates and stars.
