You see this shoe is just a pretend shoe, a metaphor for what really is; and the old woman may be anyone you know, an old lonely woman who lives in the house down the street, or even your very own grandmother! Anyone who is alone and lonely can be the old woman in the shoe, and someday when you are very, very old (although I know this is difficult for you to even imagine) that old woman or old man might even be you! And it is really no fun to live alone in a shoe, even a metaphoric one! What can you do? Why you can reach out to that metaphoric old woman in the shoe, and you won't have to look long or too far to find her.
