Olympic Gold

About Olympic Gold

Five boxers from Boston "Go for the Gold," as they compete for spots on the USA Olympic Boxing Team heading for Rio. In this dynamic sports tale, four of the athletes come from Southie, while one hails from the North End of Boston. The young men of differing personalities and backgrounds train hard, and fight in the ring for their spot and the honor of representing their country at the 2016 Olympic Games. The story shows how these young Catholic men learned to understand short-, medium-, and long-term goals. All want to pursue their education after the Olympics, and though they're rugged kids, tough down to the nail, they're not that way because they've been on their own. They've each had guidance from parents, a priest, a trainer, and each other. The five represent several neighborhoods in a grand city rich in heritage. They're put into situations that make them men by the end of their training, and are all willing to work hard through the pain to reach their goals. (About the Author) Mike Maloni has worked with Strategic Book Publishing since his first novel Defenseman: A Hockey Player's Story in 2009. His subsequent novels include Shortstop: Where Grace and Power Collide and Penn State Blue. Maloni took a hiatus from publishing as he battled mental illness. He has had some memory issues, but this comeback novel, Olympic Gold, is now available. The author is a professional photographer and a business consultant in Massachusetts. His grandfather was a Golden Gloves boxing champion.
