Paradise

Abdulrazak Gurnah is the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2021. He is a Tanzanian writer, who is currently living in the United Kingdom and writes in english as well. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature for his unique take on colonialism and refugees in the gulf between cultures and continents. Abdulrazak Gurnah grew up on Zanzibar on one of the islands. He fled the country because of persecution and arrived in England where he was studying in the 1960’s. He later became a professor of English and postcolonial literature at the University of Kent and retired thereafter. He has published a number of novels and short stories, he debuted with his first novel in 1987 ‘Memory of Departure’. He has written Paradise, Desertion, By the Sea, Last Gift, Gravel Heart, Refugee Tales and Afterlives as well. The stories he writes contain a lot of truth from his upbringing.
